Album Notes

The Hazelrigg/Leonard Group Debut CD for Replicant Records, FOREWORD, takes a fresh look at the the early days of Pat Metheny/Lyle Mayes. Pianist George Hazelrigg and his brother and bassist, Geoff, along with wonderfully talented guitarist, Dan Leonard, and feisty drummer, Bruce Guttridge, light up the jazz scene with this new release. This music spells magic; magic of a type that has been dormant for some time in this type of playing.

The ten cuts on this CD from the title cut FOREWORD to Samba in C Minor, to Brave the Blues, showcase the the versatile writing, playing and arranging talents of group members.

Following the uniquely different first effort by the Hazelrigg Brothers, Terraspin 1998, FOREWORD showcases a well rounded quartet whose music is timeless as any modern jazz classic. Executively produced by trumpeter Jimmy Wilson, this CD is a treat for anybody at any age who listens to jazz or new age music. Hazelrigg/Leonard moves "FOREWORD" right into listeners' hearts.

While I ordered this because of the names of the artists (I'm also a Hazelrigg), I was very pleased with the quality of the music. It was easy to listen to, showing a lot of talent. Smooth and mellow...and worth listening to again and again.
