Ocho Rios is known as the tourist capital of Jamaica, and will soon be known as the home town of G Cole. Born Gregory Cole on July 12th in Ocho Rios Jamaica, G Cole is the youngest of four boys. His mother being a hotel manager had him around the hotel and Cabaret music circuit since the age of four, where he fell in love with live music and performance. He also spent a lot of time listening to his father’s record collection that included many influential artists such as Stevie Wonder, and Al Green. He credits; Beres Hammond, Maxi Priest, Gregory Isaacs, and Dennis Brown as his major influences.
G Cole moved to Florida in 1997 intending to study law, though he still has not completely ruled it out, he is focused on his music right now. He has just completed his debut album with Jahgydeyah Records producer Steven Purpose Chung, entitled “This Music Vol 1. Return to vintage”. This album is sure to give you an insight into the life and times of G Cole, as he invites you to take a walk with him, and see life through the eyes of who he refers to as “still the kid from 26 Mansfield Green”.
G Cole is a true son of reggae music, who grew up studying the great ones before him. His appreciation for all genres of music is what makes his sound so special. His music is reggae, with Gospel, R&B, and Jazz influences. On his debut album “This Music vol 1 Return to vintage” he shares his interpretation of life, love, and music. He brings a positive message with every sound, and even when he is reaching out to your inner soul, his music still remains feel good music. His lyrics are honest, and on songs like “Summer of 99”, he easily, but explicitly says to a love about to be lost, what many people try hard to say but fail to. Word personification is one of his strong points also, as a writer his lyrics are very visual, and his stories keep you wanting more. This theme carries throughout the album, and songs like; "This music", "Favorite ones", and "Sail away", are just a few examples of this. If this record is his first step onto the music field, then his future looks very promising. This record seamlessly moves from slow, to mid, to up tempo, and just as easily flows from lovers rock, to roots, and culture, to dancehall. For all lovers of music, this will be a great addition to your music collection.
G Cole, has been making great strides in becoming a household name. He has been wowing audiences across Florida, his music is also getting great reception from the fans in Europe. He has shared the stage with many of his favorite artists like J-Will, JahYut, Gentleman, Sizzla, Mr Cheeks, Kymani Marley, Capleton, Damion Jr Gong Marley, Stephen Marley, and many others. While addressing the crime, poverty, and politics in the world today, his music is jovial, it’s feel good music. His music also speaks volumes about relationships, and love, music the ladies will appreciate. When asked why love is such a reoccurring theme in his music, he is quoted saying “hurt and pain are things I’m familiar with, social injustice is something I learnt of, and growing up in a mixed society, class indifference, and problems are things I’ve seen, but when it comes down to it, love is all I really know”.
With his singles; Favorite ones, Sail away, and Walking in the rain, being well received by the fans worldwide, it is without a doubt, that this voice will be around for a long time, and with an album that’s very much worthy of joining your cd collection, look out for G Cole coming through your radio, and to a stage near you.
