Album Notes

George Douglas Lee began a musical career in 1972 that took him throughout Texas and the Southwest U.S. as front man for electric rock band Uncle Jak. As a solo artist, three of Lee's singles received regional airplay, including "Sweet & Brutal", "The Price Is Paid" and "Maybe I'm Fallin'. His second single, "Elaine", was in the top five on several Texas stations.

In 1982 he formed the group Geo to record an album, "Made To Be Played", which was featured on Houston station K-101. Moving to Galveston Island, Lee began to perform as a solo act. He put down the '68 Telecaster, and armed with a Takamine EG-334BC, he played at Island clubs, continuing to compose new songs.

He walked into the newly opened Courtyard Cafe, a quaint European bistro in historic downtown Galveston to play at an open mic night. The Cafe was frequented by folkies, invoking the atmosphere of a mid-sixties coffee house. Lee quickly changed that with his high energy originals. This led to a series of weekly performances and a growing following. A packed Saturday gig inspired him to record the live performances, resulting in the production of this CD.

In addition to his exploits as a performing songwriter, Lee is a published playwright (Lazy Bee Scripts U.K.), screenwriter, actor and fine artist.

Check out his other CD's: Rock and Roll Singer and Monster Musicals, which includes audiobook versions of three children's musicals by Lee.

Mellow as cognac.
author: David G. Mills

George shows that his influences are still the Beatles, Steppenwolf, The Doors, Led Zeppelin, and the roots run deep. Much mellower than the George of yesterday but much more mature. "The bottle or the gun' pretty much sums up life for most of us. Best listened to with a good cognac.

Like all "artistic types", my good friend, and local renaissance man, George Dou

However, George is more astute than most, so he checks himself in to The Texas State Hospital For The Criminally Insane, at least twice a year, for a "tune up". This facility, in Waco, was formally run by the Branch Davidians, so it is just what George needs to relax and recuperate from his frenzied schedule!
