"Gee's stage and vocal presence is sensual, angelic and electrifying." ~ Patrick Melanson, Musical Director for Half Moon Festival/New Hampshire
"Gee isn't your standard cookie-cutter, girl-with-a-guitar-and-a-bunch-of-poems singer. She's closer in style and heart to Peter Gabriel and U2 ~~ there is a filling largeness to her tunes that transcend the speakers ~~ than anyone else I can think of. Diametrically, her songs are both subtle and sensual, deeply personal yet they are also of that rare ilk: they are hummable too."
~ Entertainment Today
"...so sweetly combines vulnerability with defiance... Texas Joan of Arc" ~Music Connection~
"Gee and her band...create music that's every bit as powerful as it is delicate and sensual. Her music comes from a deep, vulnerable place, and Gee has the ability to share herself". ~The Flash~
"Deborah Gee has a voice worth hearing and Portal is a collection of songs worth listening to."
~ Desert Post Weekly

The plaudits all are true...
author: Gazzer
If you like albums where all the songs sound the same, I'm afraid this one is not for you. If like me you want to ride a rollercoaster, ie want to be driven to the heights of exhileration then come down to earth like a comet, then I recommend this album to you. I've had this album in my collection for quite a few years and know it pretty well, yet I'm still discovering new things about it. Take the song "Naked," for example. I played the album a few hours ago, and the track has always been a low point, (emotionally) for me, but on hearing it tonight, I was struck by how beautiful the melody is, even though the subject matter is uncomfortable. A lot of the album is about life and love seen from Deborah's perspective, and all the plaudits are true. She does sing with passion, honesty, integrity and conviction, and the musicianship is flawless. A well crafted album that is a minor masterpiece. It's an excellent listen !

for couples or individuals who have accepted the challenge of the heart
author: Bjm
Deborah Gee's songs in PORTAL show an artist who has accepted the challenge of the heart, by taking risks involved in feeling the great tenderness and passion of being alive, and by willing to learn how to love -- despite everything.

A Gem in the Quarry
author: Paul Perner
As anyone who has wondered through the streams of CDs that flood the bins and play lists each year knows, there is much to be ignored, a handful to take notice of and very few true gem stones. Deborah Gee's Portal is a gem stone. Often refered to as "vulnerable," Gee's songwriting goes beyond the usual reflections on love and life. In Portal we witness a self-actualization unfolding that's ultimately just as rewarding for the listener as it is for the singer. A bold honesty blossoms when one breaks down "The sealed walls that surround you, you think for protection," as implied in the song, "Say What You Mean." Here is where fear gives way to confidence and courage and vulerability becomes an honorable trait for both men and women... everyone who wears their heart on their sleave. As with all finely cut jewels, there are many facets to Portal. Add first rate musicianship, track to track consistency and elegant cover art to a creative philosophy without pretense and you have a precious stone worth digging a mile for.
