notes
Influenced and inspired by Shirley Horn, Vince Guaraldi, Nat King Cole, and Dave Brubeck..."A Cyber Jazz Holiday" features original music, plus favorite standards such as Vince Guaraldi's Christmas Time Is Here renamed "The Holiday's Are Here," and Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song renamed "The Holiday Song." And don't forget about Holiday classics such as "Silent Night," and "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing."
Producer/bassist Ajamu Akinyele (Ah-jah-moo + Ah-kin-yay-lay) and pianist Jon O'Bergh have produced a solid CD that captures your spirit and soul, while providing a unique sound called "Cyber Jazz - Funk Fusion," continuing to redefine jazz for a new generation.
"A Cyber Jazz Holiday" also includes a bonus track of Miles Davis' "So What," only available at live shows during the Holiday Season, which you can hear at www.purevolume.com/ajamuakinyele. The entire CD is produced, arranged, composed, and performed by Andre Marcel Ajamu Akinyele and co-produced by Jon O'Bergh, both known as Gemini Soul.
Gemini Soul is compared to Sade, Herbie Hancock, MeShell Ndegeocello, Prince, Miles Davis, and Dave Brubeck among others. Performing together as Gemini Soul has given them the outlet to explore new boundaries and to create a musical vision called "cyber jazz." This is their first recording project as Gemini Soul and together they have created music that is incredibly genius.
Andre Marcel Ajamu Akinyele, pronounced Ah-jah-moo + Ah-kin-yay-lay, recorded as MARCEL from 1998 to 2004 and has had independent success with several releases in the San Francisco Bay Area, Europe, and Japan. As MARCEL, he released five CD's ranging from Funk to World, but as Ajamu Akinyele, embarked on his first jazz CD titled "Supernova," in 2005 and his critically acclaimed double CD "Black Magic The Cyber Jazz Experience" in 2006 with a re-issue due in early 2007 called The Gold Edition, all available right here at CDBABY!
Jon O'Bergh has written and produced 6 CD's, including "Song of Fire," currently unreleased; "Songs from other Planets;" "Carta," which was #1 nationwide on the NAV chart; "Meditations from a Lost World," which reached #3; "Sacred Spaces"; and "Millennial Landscapes," which reached #2. He also co-produced songs for MARCEL, now known as Ajamu Akinyele, on his 2003 release "Uptown : 2025 A.D.," and for the R&B recording artist JARROD on his debut CD "Every Part of Me," which are all available right here at CDBABY!

Holiday Jazz...this is a must have!
author: Katrina-Kasey Wheeler - JazzReview.comGemini Soul's newest release entitled, "A Cyber Jazz Holiday" truly encapsulates the spirit of Christmas. "In Love With You" is beautiful and it undeniably feels like the love song that it is. "The Holidays Are Here" is sure to put you in the holiday spirit. If you love the original "Christmas Time Is Here" then you will assuredly love this modernized interpretation of this timeless classic. The final track, "The Holiday Song," Akinyele sings a very genuinely heartfelt performance of this Christmas favorite. This duo proves to be the perfect formula for a winning endeavor. In addition, Jon O’Bergh is truly talented, from his piano playing to his keyboard expertise. If you're looking to add to your holiday jazz collection, then this is a must have!
Sweet, Moving Improvisational Jazz!
author: Richard BanksA Cyber Jazz Holiday is a very likeable new holiday release by Gemini Soul, featuring the stylings of Ajamu Akinyele (drums and bass) and Jon O'Bergh (piano), who play in a groovy jazz style that won me over right away! Akinyele and O'Bergh perform an accessible and eclectic brand of improvisational, retro-jazz that manages to incorporate elements of ambient, trance, and hip hop music, as well. I particularly enjoyed Evergreen, where the well-known theme from O Christmas Tree was discussed, di-sected, and riffed. Improvisational jazz is really difficult to do well, but these fellows certainly have the knack. I loved every minute of every track, and I still plan to listen to this after all of this season's reviews are done. --Richard Banks
