ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
songs from the long way home is the first album of australian-born, brooklyn-based (for a while) singer/songwriter/guitarist gemma connell. produced by fellow singer/songwriter chris cubeta (Chris Cubeta and the Liars Club) in his brooklyn studio (galuminumfoil), the album has the feel of a simple evening spent with friends over a cup of tea. it holds songs from three different eras in gemma's life: sydney, brooklyn, europe. it winds it's way through emotions strong and hard but sings most of her love of a city (brooklyn) and a person across the seas. for the homesick, the heartbroken, the distant, the close. it's an album that's simple in it's production but true in it's core. dear friends and talented musicians patrick hay (Great Elk, electric guitar), tarrah reynolds (violin) and ryan vaughan (cajon) fill up the spaces on different tracks, with chris lending his hand from desk tapping to piano playing, and tom milledge giving the album the drawings it always wanted. it's a record built on quiet evenings spent in the studio after long days in the office, and days revelling in the love of a city she was about to leave. it's no more and no less than one person's songs from the long way home.
