Album Notes

In August 2003, Los Angeles-based songwriter/guitarist, Sean Stratton, and drummer, Tristan Destry, both English teachers whose artistic sense blends eclectic influences, joined forces with vocalist Gina Venturini, a Nebraska native with experience ranging from pop to opera. A year later the group began recording the upbeat, edgy love-song compilation, _Happy Moon_. Since fall of 2004, Genius Girl plays clubs and festivals around the Los Angeles area. Happy Moon is Like Good Fortune from Yummie Cookie
author: Q Doggy
Happy Moon is enchating, and somewhere between Meat Puppets II and Janis Joplin. It's amazing how they conjure sounds that span sixties psychedelia to country, folk and blues to alt-rock John Trudell with Sonic Youth a la mode. Actually the music is more organized than that, which says a lot considering how complex some of the rhythms are, which the production job compresses superbly. This CD is rich with music - guitar fills galore by axe-master 'Minnesota Strats' - lots of impressive, almost bluegrass drum snaps by Tristan 'Destroyer' Destry, with Vocalist Gina Venturini carrying us to the blue empyrean with her everlasting trill, intoxicating like the future-retronsonic wine of her namesake. The songs Happy Moon, Broken Heart Parade, and Back to You are sublimly executed and airplay-ready. In fact, almost every number fits that perfect 3-5 minute pop song paradigm, but in those spaces magages to explore the subleties of exotic influences, emotive expression and soul. Goes well with the Native American-inspired soundtrack 'Smoke Signals.' THIS CD SOARS!
