Album Notes

Gentle Rain
the Story

From the first cut, we proved something. Brad has a great tone, and with charlie's wonderful guitar, we have a great sound. Brad and Charlie start off with "Four," lots of energy, great guitar and trombone solos. We wanted to feature Charlie and Brad as much as possible and the bossa's were ideal: "Come to Me," "Gentle Rain," "Speak Low." Listen not only to the solos, but how charlie comps. Great stuff, but then again, Charlie is one of the best musicians any of us have ever worked with. Naturally, I'm thumping along with these two great players, just having a ball. Fun!
Listen to;

"Stella" - Here's proof that Charlie is special. Charlie plays with real feeling; and those chords! Then Brad comes slinking in. Oh, I love this one! You may want to put this on "repeat play."
"Charlie's Blues" - was a creation of none other than the "Great Charlie Robinson."
"Gentle Rain" - is our title song and a good choice. This is the best example of the mood of the Album (CD).
"Whoopie" - was my idea. I wanted to do one song with just Brad and I, without a drummer or Charlie to help us. We proved we could get gigs playing on street corners and little coffee shops. Just the two of us. Any takers?
"Our Love is Here to Stay" - has two more guest artists, Dave Mitchell on Trumpet and Gary Reynolds on Vibes. Both of these superbly talented musicians are "gut" players. Don't give them any sheet music, it'll hold them back! Gary also was with us on "Autumn Leaves."
We ended the album with "That's All." I can't imagine how many times we've ended a gig with this song, but....it never sounded this good!

An "Elks Club Band" ?? Not !! From the first track to the last; I felt like I was in a movie...a "James Bond movie" ...The classic scene...a zillionaire is throwing a private get together at some exclusive hotel in Monaco for a few hundred of his closest business associates..glasses clink, soft evening lights illuminate the deck of a huge pool with a fountain, couples chatting in small groups , others softly swaying to the sounds of "Gentle Rain"....he walks up to the bar..."Martini...shaken not stirred...."...cool.
