Geoff Byrd is a Singer/Songwriter from Portland Oregon who is creating a huge buzz in the industry. He has just been added to 105.1 "The Buzz" in heavy rotation in Portland which has led to many Program Directors adding his single "Silver Plated" to their playlists. The Buzz's sister station WMYX-FM, Milwaukee,WI is spinning it, and it has been picked up by KRSH 95.9 FM, in Santa Rosa, CA, KINK 102 FM, Portland, OR and KESC 103.7 FM in Oklahoma.     I've missed two concerts that I'd planned to go, but to redeem my guilt and frustration for missed out on Geoff Byrd and his band, I bought the cd, because I had listened to the 3 songs available on www.geoffbyrd.com and I loved the work song "Shrinking violets", so I thought that I would give it a try. That was the best $12,23 that I spent this year.This cd is great, there is not a song that I dislike.Great songs, melody,lyrics, what about Geoff's voice?It's just beautiful!!!I loved it!!! I can't wait to see him live. PS: by the way...."Shrinking Violets" has been playing in my carstereo since it arrived, 2 weeks ago...I've been memorizing it, so I can sing along at the next concert coming up (June 10th,2006 at Dantes)...see you there!!!     I can't believe Geoff Byrds vocal range. It doesn't matter if he is singing low or going for a high note... He nails it every time and it is sexy as hell. He is such an incredible talent. I am truly blown away that he writes and sings his own music. His music is so refreshing. I love the Bee Gees and it was fun to hear him sing how deep is your love! I see big things for this band.

    I've owned this cd for almost a year now, and I still listen to it every day! I grew up listening to stuff like Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, N*Sync, and Aaron carter, Listening to Geoff is such a nice break from those who aren't...well as talented as he is.     "Candy Shell" really hits the mark of great melodic pop music. Geoff's take on the Bee Gee's "How Deep Is Your Love" brings it into a whole new light of beautiful. I also think the song "Versus The World" could easily be a smash hit song, if radio wasn't so busy playing garbage these days! I should know, since I'm a radio guy! Get "Candy Shell" to enjoy a great album!

    A definite must for your collection. Would not have known about Geoff Byrd had my wife not heard him on the Mark & Brian show. From that moment, she had to get her hands on more of his music. I was skeptical at first, but after listening to partial tracks on the web, I saw that she was on to something. Not only have we recommended to friends, but we bought it for some of them as well.

    I haven't bought a new CD in about five or six years. I heard this one through RealRhapsody and had to buy it!! RealRhapsody allowed me to listen to the tracks as often as I wanted to, but I wanted my friends to hear it. I think I created a couple of converts! My favorite tracks are: I'm in Love, Wait 4 Me, Silver Plated, Tale of the Rain and the Moon, Frozen... I know, not a short list. I like all the tracks on the CD because each one is unique and you don't feel like you're listening to a Single with a bunch of other songs thrown on there for filler. Every song is GREAT!

Watch out for this guy in the future... if he doesn't get the airplay and recognition he deserves I've completely lost faith in the industry. He's extremely talented and his music just grabs you. I heard him first on Mark & Brian Show and was instantly taken in... artists like this don't come along often.

    All 9 original songs have the capacity to be number one single hits. All very catchy, enjoyable tunes. I even enjoyed the cover song, which I never cared for by the original artists. The biggest mistake made by these new artists is the usual mistake made by amateur bands -- too much instrumental and not enough vocal. This could be repaired by a good sound mixer. Could use some work on the enunciation by vocalists. Very difficult to figure out the lyrics. This CD contains songs you'd like to sing along with, but can't understand the words. Even with its few problems, look for this band to become a contender for best new artist next year.

    This CD, in short, is a great album, and this artist is probably one of the best on all of the CDs I own. It's true what they say about Geoff Byrd being like John Mayer and Maroon5--Geoff has the high notes of Adam Levine with the vocal huskiness of John Mayer, yet he and his band have a sound that is all their own. Their music is approachable, wonderfully arranged, and sounds like it could be any album you would find from a major record label--yet it ISN'T, Geoff Bryd has yet to be signed. With a song such as "Silverplated" beginning to hit some radio station airwaves, I still wonder: WHERE IS THEIR RECORDING CONTRACT? This album and this band are certainly deserving of such a deal.

    Go ahead and buy a copy of this album. No, buy two albums and share one with a friend because you'll want to spread the word on Geoff Byrd's Candy Shell. Tracks 4, 6, and 7 are my favorites but there isn't a bad track on the CD. The favorable John Mayer comparisons are legit, this CD is a testiment to Geoff Byrd and his own wonderful ability.

While his production and texturing sparkle, this isn't your overly-glossed pop candy; it comes with many tastes and satifies a full palate- first sweet, then buttery with body and finally goes down with a creamy satisfaction.     I am a child of 70s AM radio pop. Obviously Geoff must be too. Take an obvious love of Hall/Oates, the Bee Gees and other things that ruled AM radios and mix it with Jellyfish, Owsley and other modern poppers and you'd get Candy Shell. Hard to pick a favorite track, but if someone put a gun to my head and forced a choice...I'd have to go with Frozen, a ballad so hauntingly beautiful that you can easily picture it on the closing credits of any WB show (and racing right up the charts as well!). Stunning...

    'Candy Shell' is among the best albums that I have ever heard. The album is up there with Nirvana's 'Nevermind', The Police's 'Syncronicity', Prince's 'Purple Rain', and U2's 'The Joshua Tree'.     I once heard that Rivers Cuomo from Weezer carries around a three-ring binder full of spreadsheets and diagrams – dissections of songs – which he studies in an effort to uncover the formula for the perfect pop song. I get the feeling that Portland’s Geoff Byrd may have gotten his hands on this binder and added the crucial missing ingredient that Rivers Cuomo will probably always be too off-beat to ever provide – mass accessibility. Similar in sound to John Mayer, Geoff Byrd’s compositions aren’t especially challenging (there are no moments of genuine surprise), but the pop purity is flawless and the production and performances (from such local names as Colby Hendricks, Eric Storm, Caleb Denison, Ben Fowler, and Marc Hutchinson) are top-notch. Including a cover of the Bee Gee’s “How Deep is Your Love”, “Candy Shell” is eleven perfectly crafted tunes, smoothly sung and undeniably radio friendly. All this release needs is a little marketing money and Carson Daly’s televised approval. In fact, if these songs aren’t all over the radio within six months, someone somewhere did something horribly wrong. Mark my words.

    I can’t say enough about this CD, the recording is clean and clear. Each song is masterfully written with a hook that has you singing along after the first time that you hear it. The production is incredible. This CD is better that anything that I have heard any major label put out in years. The songs flow like a best of Geoff Byrd collection, but it is a debut CD. Where did these guys come from anyway? I have listened to it non stop after picking it up at their release party. The only problem that I can see is deciding which hit single they should release first. How do you spell Grammy? B-Y-R-D!

    I have had the pleasure of seeing Geoff Byrd and his band perform in town here four times. Each time their music draws you in, first your head starts to bob, then your foot taps, then your eyes close to soak in the wonderful harmonies as the lyrics flow effortlessly. CANDY SHELL, thier new CD, is the ULTIMATE, each time you listen to it the smoothness of Geoff's voice and harmonies of the instruments and backup vocals consume you. Each song set's it's own mood and transforms you for a short length of time. It is filled with passion and the lyrics of the songs speak of love and sometimes pain, which we all can relate to. My fav's thus far, after listening to it six times through are; I'LL BE THERE, I'M IN LOVE, and THE TALE OF THE RAIN AND MOON. It is great stuff to sit back and soak in OR get up and dance to, whatever your mood. A MUST buy and crosses all barriers of age! A FAN!
