Solid cd beginning to end
author: Stephen B.This is a great cd, well worth the price. It still hits one of my most listened to on my Zen. It is difficult to describe Geoff's music. A little like Chris Isaac with a touch of Cranberries and a dash or Tori Amos. Great stuff. Missed a 5 because I just don't like "That's how it Goes" as much as the rest of the album. Altogether, a great album.
Shrinking Violets is a mainstream contender....a pure gem.

This was confirmed when hearing a full band supporting the tunes on this gem of a CD. Shrinking Violets is a serious contender against any mainstream releases.....bar none.

Geoff's voice is perfect and the instumentals are amazing. The only time I take "Shrinking Violets" out of my car is to bring it in the house. The song lyrics are edgy, contemplative, fun and meaningful. A bit of everything that somehow just flows together. It is a CD for anyone that loves music! Something for everyone. Passionate, intense, flirtatious, exceptional music and vocals, great lyrics. From soft, seductive notes to soul to rock wailing, every song is spectacular. My personal favorites are Shrinking Violets, Parasol and I Will Be There. This album covers the whole spectrum of love, passion and pain. It has it all. Not many artists or cds I can say that about. Everyone I've played this cd for has loved it and gone out and bought their own copy!

author: S Longafter seeing Geoff in Vegas, I had to order this CD. Also, as I live in Canada, it is not available in stores...yet. I absolutely love Parosol, it is my favorite, largely due to the lyrics which I can totally relate to... Before Kings is great, as is Silver Plated, but Plasti-Queens is a fun song! I can't wait for Geoff to become the star he is destined to be.. and hopefully see him here in Canada soon.

No angry rants here, this sets the mood...it brings back the best of soul, pop and rock and roll, all with a modern snap! This is music that was made for one reason, to get close to your woman and dance, baby! Its all about the groove! I was fortunate to see Geoff and the band live and let me tell you, #1) A lot of beautiful women dancing in front of the stage and 2) this guy rocks better than anybody out there today! This band definately has what it takes! Buy the CD, love the CD, then go see Geoff Byrd live...and take a date! You'll thank me in the morning!

CD makes me jump, swoon, and sigh
author: Jennifer James-LongFrom "I'm in Love" and "Frozen" to "That's How it Goes" and "Plasti-Queens", this CD serves up hit after hit. There aren't any "filler" songs here. Each one is unique and orchestrated beautifully. I think it's interesting that everyone I've talked to about this CD has a few tracks that they favor, but none that they don't like. It's really hard to say which one is my favorite. I like each one for it's individuality. Every song has something to say! I love "That's how it goes" because it makes me want to jump around. "I'm in Love" makes me swoon and "Frozen" makes me sigh. "Plasi-Queens" makes me laugh! A few of the songs are, what I call, a "good hurt" while others make me want to sing. You'll play this CD over and over. TRUST ME!!

A great CD, fun to listen to anytime, anywhere!
author: StarMost of the songs on the CD are up-tempo, but there are a few which are more mellow and provide a nice balance to the rest. If you’re not a fan of pop music in general, then you may think some of the lyrics are on the verge of cheesy, but in this case they are at least never cliché. Listening to the lyrics, you’ll find a sense of humor: “Imagination is my friend, because you never give it up in bed…” (Elusive Butterfly, track # 8); social commentary: “You need surgery to feel pretty enough, so Daddy bought you a D cup for your 21st birthday. Now you can blend in in West L.A. Everyone is buying good genes for their plasti-queens.” (Plasti-Queens, track # 7); and you can’t forget the lines that make the girls melt: “Your passion spins like a weathervane, the taste of your lips is like sugarcane…” and “Your eyes are burned into memory, the way you move when you’re over me…” (both from I’m in Love, track # 10). All the songs were written by Geoff, with the exception of “Silver Plated”, “Frozen”, and “That’s How it Goes” which were written by both Geoff Byrd and Michael Page, a member of another Portland band; The Superficials. While the lyrics are great, you can’t forget about the music. The band backing the vocals is easily as outstanding. String arrangements on “Frozen”, “Parasol”, and “Shrinking Violets” were by Jimmie Haskell, and string arrangements on “Silver Plated were by “Chris Reutinger”. The strings give the songs a little more depth and sound spectacular. I honestly enjoy every song on this CD and there isn’t one that I skip past when listening to the CD from start to finish. My friends and I love singing along to all of the songs and some hit home a little more than others. (When driving along I-5, it’s a must that we listen to “I’ll be There”. With the line of “Drivin’ drivin’ on our way down I-5 south…” it’s a song that just screams “sing-along!” Geoff was inspired by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s relationship and wrote “Before Kings” as a result. You may have heard this song as there are several Adult Contemporary stations across the country that are currently spinning this single. Another new song, “Parasol” is also a great one. The lyrics talk about a woman in a less than perfect relationship. There were good times early on, but soon the woman loses herself in the man, putting his needs before her own. She does anything she can for him to the point of extreme exhaustion. “I’m in Love” was a favorite for me off of “Candyshell” and it still remains so. It’s one of the best love songs I’ve ever heard, and if I ever get married in the future, that will be one that’s played. There are good things to say about every song, but these are just a few that stand out in my mind.
