Geoffrey Kelly is currently a member of 2 of Canadas best known Celtic/Pop bands. With both Spirit of the West, and the Paperboys, he has traveled the world and recorded more than 15 CDs.
"Gringo Star" is his first solo album, and it is truly a solo album. Geoffrey plays all the instruments, as well as producing and engineering the tracks. The album veers between moody airs ,sets of uplifting reels, and the guitar Instrumental "Eugene".
The track "The Lonely Biker" was used in a feature film called "Lunch With Charles" starring Biff Naked. The opening piece, "Sunflower Girl" has been chosen as the theme music for a mountaineering documentary on Tim Rippels solo attempt on Mount Everest in 2001 called "One On One".
Wooden flute is Geoffreys first instrument, and is certainly what people identify with, in his musicianship. On "Gringo Star" this is still the case, but also featured is his more recent development as an acoustic guitarist.
Geoffrey can also be found guesting on the latest Great Big Sea CD "Sea of No Cares", as well as on Murray McLaughlans " Gullivers Taxi", Paul Hydes "Turtle Island", The Irish Decendants, The Irish Rovers,
Mae Moore, The Waltons, and many other albums.

Geoff blows your mind as well as his whistles!
author: David Shipley (UK)
Maybe it's because I've always loved Geoff Kelly's music, ever since first hearing Spirit of the West. Maybe it's because Geoff is part of the best band in the world - the Paperboys, if you need to ask! Or maybe it's because this CD is just so brilliant! It's all of these things. Geoff does for the flute and whistle what Jean Luc Ponty did for the violin. Celtic roots - folk-jazz - even images of the Andes in my favourite track Annapurna! This is a stunning offering from an under-rated genius. Buy it - and don't be put off by the cover!
