Album Notes

Here . . . Put This On, is an example of the band's "right in the chops" approach to presentation. It contains three swingin original compositions alone with hard-hitting arrangements of tunes composed and performed by such legends, as Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker and Miles Davis.

Nominated by the 2006 Detroit Music Awards for OUTSTANDING MODERN JAZZ GROUP 2007 Nominee for OUTSTANDING MODERN JAZZ ARTIST/GROUP by the Detroit Music Awards "GEQ" is one of the hottest up and coming jazz ensembles from the Detroit, Michigan area. Composer / Trumpeter Guymon Ensley, formed the band in 2001. In a time when established jazz "groups" are scarce, GEQ is that rare gem that plays classic jazz, be-bop and nu-jazz music of the highest artistic quality. The group continues to deliver, setting standards in musicianship and professionalism. The band’s high energy has been compared respectfully to the likes of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers and the John Coltrane and Miles Davis ensembles and has received acceptance from worldwide audiences.

Guymon Ensley - trumpet
Kerry Lacy - bass & vocals
Phil Lesky - piano
Milton Hale - drums
Cornelious Johnson - saxophone

This album is a great compliment to the Jazz Legends; such as , John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Wayne Shorter, Duke Ellington, and more! This Quintet is filled with gifted musicians and they bring forth a clean sound. I can tell that the trumpet player has been influenced by such greats as Freddie hubbard and the Great Lee Morgan. Play on GEQ and Keep "Jazz" Alive!!!
