Album Notes

Gerry Beckley is a founding member of the rock band America. Born in Fort Worth, Texas on September 12, 1952 to an American father and an English mother. He began playing the piano at age 3 and the guitar a few years later. By 1962 he was playing guitar in The Vanguards an instrumental surf music band in Virginia. He spent every summer in England and soon discovered British invasion music.

In 1967 Beckley's father became the commander at the U.S. Air Force Base at West Ruislip, near London. Gerry attended Central High School in Hartfordshire where he played in various school bands and met his soon to be band members, Dewey Bunnell and Dan Peek.

Gerry has continued success with the rock band America as well as his solo releases "Van Go Gan", "Go Man Go" (a re-mix of Van Go Gan), "Horizontal Fall" and newly released "Happy Hour".

Gerry has worked with a wide variety of musicians on many projects. One of the most notable is the recording Like a Brother done with Carl Wilson of the Beach Boys and Robert Lamm of Chicago. Beckley-Lamm-Wilson released Like a Brother in 2001.

Solo Greatest Hits Plus

I very much enjoyed the CD. I didn't compare the titles of the songs with those Gerry's two previous solo albums, so I didn't notice that this CD was basically a greatest hits album of his solo career until I listened to it. I loved nearly all of the songs, but I was a bit disappointed that it was a greatest hits album, as I just recently discovered the three CDs the hits came from, and I was looking forward to more new material. Please keep putting out your new material, whether as part of America, or as solo releases. The 21st century America and Gerry Beckley albums have all been fantastic!

HAPPIEST HOUR

A TRULY SUPERB COLLECTION OF OLD AND NEW TREASURES FROM GERRY, EACH TUNE BEARING HIS DISTINCT TOUCH WHILE STILL SOUNDING "AMERICAN." THIS IS A GREAT DISC WHICH DESERVES A WIDE LISTENING AUDIENCE, BUT SINCE WE LANGUISH IN THE AGE OF AMERICAN "IDLE" KARAOKE PERFORMERS, TRUE ARTISTS GO UNAPPRECIATED AND UNHEARD. I AM OFF TO ORLANDO FOR THE WEEKEND AND WILL SEE AMERICA THERE ON SATURDAY THE 7TH....HOPE I CAN GET THE DISC SIGNED.
