Album Notes

Geyster, Geyster...but who's that band ? Who are these people ? One more duet ? No kiddin' ? Well, nothing can stop the parisian Gaël Benyamin and his swedish blonde Pernilla Grönlund ! With their pop-rock-westcoasty-jazzy-funky-disco-house-electro music they've been dragging since 1998, they now dare to compete with some of biggest artists out there ! Man, how tiring it is to see all of those emerging artists claiming they have written the best album of the year everytime they release a new record ! Beside, for most people, Geyster is just the pop-house hit "Bye Bye Superman" released in 2003, a sunshiny-cheesy pop-song surfing on the tail of the French Touch wave... So what is this new album featuring some so-called "serious" music doing here ? Where have all the house-electro-dance beats and tacky cheesy pop songs we were used to gone off ? Alright then, let's stop kidding for a minute here, Geyster's third studio album "No Kiddin'" is built like a journey, a concept album like they used to make back in the days. From the disco hit "Come My Direction" that opens up the album (and makes the link to Geyster's previous work) to the nasty energetic rock song "No Kiddin'" or the cosmical jazzy tune "Sometimes" or the disturbing "Downtown" and "Sundown", the least we can say is that the mood is very much changing in this album. It sounds a bit like "westcoast" music that would have found his roots on the "eastcoast". A music that appeals to the big american western open spaces flooded by the smooth californian sun, but with a continuous smashing feeling of oppression and stress that goes on in big cities like New York... The famous french writer David Foenkinos even wrote a short story about it ("Inversion des côtes") which is featured inside the CD booklet. The Geysters are definitely no kiddin' no more, so all you kids out there, just beat it, we're in the grown-ups playground here, and all of those who don't understand this music then please beat it too before we beat you up at the school lunch break ! So who the hell is kiddin' here ?
