Album Notes

The Perpetual Drifters formed in the spring of 2007 during the collaboration of singer/songwriter Garrett Gray with drummer Justin Wood and bassist Evan McPherson. What followed was the recording and completion of their debut EP, Peeling Back the Night. All songs are written by Gray, whose passionate vocal delivery and impressionistic lyrics hang with restless conviction throughout every track. Gray sings in a tone that is savage, soothing, gritty and graceful, often all at the same time. The tunes are well crafted and tend to be introspective, blending elements of rock, country, folk and blues. From the pulsing energy of the big city, to the loping rhythms of rural life, Wood and McPherson create the perfect backdrop for Gray’s late night musings with thick, sometimes haunting landscapes.
