Album Notes

You'll love this melodic trek, a time to share the roots of hard core country music from the previous generation with this one and the next. The fertile mind of Bill McDonald pumps out ten songs about personal encounters an old roper can pass on to his son.
From the title cut, "The Highway," about the journey home, through the decision to leave Slide Mountain, to the rekindling of an "Old Blue Flame," the Ghost Riders' arrangements capture snapshots of scenery any folks might recall from their travels down the road.
Bill sings, and accompanies himself on acoustic guitar, about memories of the good times with "Rose-A-Lee," about warm thoughts of "Lovin' You" making dreams come true, countered by "I Wish My Beer Were as Cold As Her Heart" and leaving was the "Hardest Thing I Had to Do." He recounts a romantic episode about nurturing a "Moontan" and the reality of facing life in his own "Ghost Town."
The Ghost Riders' conjure up a spirited, home grown style, highlighted by Jimmy "Steel's" inventive pedal steel guitar and dobro licks and Brian "Graz's" rangy guitar leads and tasteful fills. Pour in the solid beat of "Big" Bob Norton on drums and the bass bottom of "Mild" Bill Pitcher, add a pinch of juicy vocal harmonies, and it just makes you want to move your feet.
"Mild" Bill offers five Ghost Riders' renditions of vintage, traditional tunes. These include the futility of anger in a swinging version of "Don't Be Angry"; many dancers' favorite step, a waltz, called "Something to Remember You By"; and a reminder that worrying serves no purpose in the stomper, "Worried Man Blues." Also, there's a rousing version of a train song, "Let It Roll," and a rollicking salute to one of our favorite country gals, "Corrina, Corrina."
The CD concludes with Bill's soulful but ironic declaration, "I Don't Need Your Love Tonight." Sure. Sure. In the meantime, you can listen, dance, reminisce, and join the Ghost Riders as they continue to chronicle their walk down the ever-ongoing path.
