Album Notes

The adopted name of cute-as-a-button Californian Kim Kylland, Ghost Town Jenny makes the sort of music that hovers somewhere between winsomely charming and oppressively twee—though to be fair, if you’re going to add ukulele and musical saw to the mix, you’re just asking for preciousness overload. Kylland’s songs similarly drift among coffeehouse indie-folk fare, approximations of June Carter Cash-esque country, and a tangled-strings experimentalism that occasionally comes off like a minimalist answer to Andrew Bird. Her forthcoming debut, Overture, comprises songs recorded while Kylland was traveling through far-flung places from Ireland to Iceland; its official release is in January, but fans can pick up a handmade copy (again, how adorable can you get?) at live shows....
