Absolutely one of a kind (wish it weren't so!)

Well, I'm writing this review because I haven't got my greedy paws on the new album yet. I've had the EP for a little over a year (found it through random surfing on Garageband.com and then pestered the band into sending me a copy before it was released at cdbaby) and it remains one of my constant favorites. Giant Value manages to be completely unique and completely San Francisco at the same time (and from Camper Van Beethoven to Cake, San Francisco has produced some of the best bands ever, in my opine). Dena Connolly's lyrics are smart and funny and the group has that (unfortunately rare) talent of crafting excellent melodies and clever grooves that fit the lyrics to perfection. The blend of Connolly's and bandmate Heather Brubaker's voices in the well-turned and sometimes quite unusual harmonies is a treat. In short, it's the kind of music that is always worth hearing again. Can't wait to hear the LP!
