Melissa Gibson is one of those rare singer/songwriters who tells stories with her music like a critically acclaimed author does with pen and paper. Her music is a country/folk blend with power and thought provoking lyrics. The great thing about her music is that it can easily be related to by just about anyone. This is one of those albums that will instantly jog your mind of memories that you haven't thought about in years. To me, that is more than enough for the price of admission. Melissa Gibson is truly a gifted artist who creates real art. That's just something the world can't have enough of.

Melissa has that zest and charm of 70s heroines like Carole King and Helen Reddy, never losing site of her folk roots that challenge the singer-songwriter to go naked to the audience and not lie when the lyrics start passing from brain to strumming fingers. Add a fine, serious voice to that thoughtfulness and up comes a winner.

as this repiew is being written, it's 11:04 A.m. eastern time on September 11, 2006. it's wonderful how often you hear just the right song at the right way. this day is clear, cool and sunny, and of course the anniversary of a very unsettling memory for many, but sleep well tonight is more then enough to sell these blind ears on this one. it feels like home listening to it.

Here is a nice CD if you adore the female singer songwriter tradition that started out in the late 60’s and developed in the 70’s with artists like Joni Mitchell and Carole King. The sound is very much the traditional way of being with a folk-touch, and Melissa’s voice is solid and driven. Fifth out “Table For Two” is a very beautiful tune with a lot of Mary Chapin Carpenter-vibes and “Smoke And Mirrors” with a touch of Nashville is a very good tune that could have been on Lucinda Williams latest album. I recommend you to check her out if you like the names you just read about. Melissa’s latest CD will not change the world but is sure an hour of nice “singer songwriter folk-pop”. Well I have to tell you about the very nice track “Shade”. It’s a ballad that could have been on any Linda Ronstadt album from the late 70’s. A VERY beautiful tune.
