Keyboardist/Composer Lafayette Gilchrist has been leading his band (New Volcanoes)through his own unique, uncategorizable hybrid of Jazz expansiveness and funk slam for more than a minute now and has never failed to move audiences with inspired live performances.

Born and raised in Washington D.C., this young self-taught musician has released under his own label two hotly regarded CDs "Asphalt Revolt" and "Collagic Dreams".

Asphalt Revolt takes a seithing pulsepounding plunge into a sonic world filled with raw noirish grooves and beatiful dissonances.

Recently Lafayette has been working in the groups of world renowned Grammy Award winning saxophonist David Murray.

He now haunts the clubs of New York,Philadelphia,Washington D.C. and Baltimore.
