"Singer Gina Roché sets her sights here on the intersection of jazz, soul and Brazilian pop. This collection hits all three." -- The Philadelphia Inquirer

"Gina Roché waited 15 years to create a CD under her own name. She makes the wait worth it. "Dawning of a New Way" is and exhilarating debut CD that will provide lasting pleasure..." --The Press of Atlantic City

I am of Irish and Spanish descent and from a small town outside of Philadelphia (East Lansdowne PA).
Chuck Miller (from WRTI) asked me in an interview "Do you remember when it was you decided to sing?" ...in replying I realized ...I never "decided" to become a singer.
When we were little, my sister Marguerite used to ask me "How do you remember the words to all the songs on the radio?"
It seemed the only thing I could remember...guess I'm in the right business eh?
I know this may sound corny, however true, I have been very fortunate to experience music with the best players and supportive musicians. I get to do what I love and make a living ...I'm always looking forward to the next musical adventure just around the corner. I thank YOU for your part in my ability to live my dream.

My favorite song from the cd is "The Gift of We". I wrote this song in honor of my friend Bess. We were next door neighbors. We loved, laughed and disagreed...alot! She was 92 when she made transition. Her memory lives on in this song and in my heart. I hope you enjoy it.

About this CD:
Roche's compositions of self-discovery, her sultry voice and the splendid instrumentalists, all contribute to this musical journey. Gina Roché's long awaited debut CD, "Dawning of a New Way", achieves a blend of spicy jazz, favorite tunes and original compositions with a twist of Brazil.

"It's her voice. Sure, there's the shock of curly blonde, the bare feet and the meditative, blissful swaying, usually with her eyes closed, as the band's groove flows through and around her, there's that room-filling smile, but it's her voice that grabs you. Fortunately, her voice has been captured, amid some beautifully written original tunes and familiar favorites...all of this on her first release, Dawning of a New Way." --Bill Barlow

Artists on "Dawning of a New Way":
Gina Roché (vocals) - Romero Lubambo (guitar) - Chico Huff (bass) - Allison Miller (drums) - Jim Ridl (piano) - Tim Lekan (acoustic bass)

I want to thank my family and friends (especially my momma and big daddy-o) for all their love and support. I am blessed... Peace - Love - and All that is Good!
Gina Roché

I leave you with my favorite quote:

Original, beautiful, uplifting
Beautiful album, I have played it so many times already and love the original compositions and arrangements of the covers. Gina has a quality and originality all of her own. Congratulations!

A musician of Beauty, Wisdom, Innocence, Sensuality, Honesty and focus
I had the pleasure of working in Gina's band, a few years ago. She always reflected a spiritual innocence, spiritual intelligence, and spiritual sensuality. This CD gives evidence to that fact. It is simple and complex and very intelligent. Every song shows her love of Brazilian music, of Jazz and any music that is real. This album definitely hits the nail on the head. Every note rings true. The players are killers. Gina is one of a handful of vocal masters of this or any other generation.

truely angelic
gina roche's voice is that of angels singing jazz with a kiki twist of mediterranean style. this cd is a must have.

Frank Jaskolka -- Big Fan

Gina is awesome. My wife and I fight over this CD.
...We are going to have to buy two.
I heard Gina for the first time several years ago in a club
in Cape May NJ. She was singing, Tim was on acoustic bass.
Since then I have been hooked. This CD is her best work so
far. It brings me back to that smoky bar where everybody
in the room was grooving.
If you love jazz, you need this CD.
Gina Roche' is simply awesome.

Vince Colella

A true pleasure
I've worked wih Gina for a long time and when I heard this CD ,I realized Gina had grown into a very gifted artist. The players are just smoking and Gina is singing just beautifully!!! Great Job to all! I would highly recommend this CD

From the car to the bar to the kitchen to the hot tub...
Dawning Of A New Way will be the CD that will make you merengue in the car, linger over a smooth one in the bar, hum in the kitchen and pull someone closer in the hot tub.

All About Jazz

"Dawning of a New Way" reviewed by Don Williamson
...an individualistic and compelling singer in an understated sort of way...Her timbre, range, depth of meaning and respect for accompanying instrumentalists reflect those of the best-known Brazilian singers like Astrud Gilberto or Dori Caymmi. Indeed, Roche' shows her respect for the genre by singing Jobim's Brigas Nunca Mais in Portuguese to the accompaniment of master guitarist Romero Lubambo.
Allowing her accompanists to shine, Roche' sometimes joins them as yet another instrumentalist as she sings wordlessly before unexpectedly breaking out into words as a fulfillment of the tune.
As the feeling of the tunes dictate, Roche' improvises in purrs or prods or growls or crys or whispers or clipped words or roundly formed extended tones that invest the songs with emotional content.
The instrumentalsts on the album are uniformly excellent, and singling them out would detract from Roche's glowing presence. Yet drummer Allison Miller, lately working with Rachel Z in her tribute to Wayne Shorter and appearing on every track, provides the consistency to the project, varying the rhythm from the rumbling portent of "Summertime"
to the New Orleans street march beat of "No More Blues."
Presenting four new compositions with personal importance to
Roche', Dawning of a New Way reveals a heretofore hidden talent who finally has come into her own as a sensitive interpreter of song and a continuation in the long line of singers who have made thier sounds extensions of thier personalities.

Fabulous, Uplifting, A true Masterpiece
This CD is truly a masterpiece. Summertime is the best version that I have ever heard.
