Album Notes

Based out of Portland, OR, Megan Mcgaughy and brothers John, Jesh, and Joel Brophy create magical indie pop. They have been playing shows together for about three years and recently celebrated their second release entitled "Wax Lips and Hummingbirds." Drawing influences from artists such as Pavement, Slowdive, and Elliot Smith, they have been compared to Architecture in Helsinki, Earlimart, and even Grandaddy. They have shared the stage with Viva Voce, Enon, Mates of State, the Octopus Project, Aqueduct, Roots of Orchis, The Handsome Family, Bettie Serveert and many more with hundreds of shows, successful touring, and a SXSW 2006 showcase under their collective fancy belts.

Press:

"What starts off as a sort of creepy, post-apocalyptic nod to Henry Mancini turns out to be one of the brightest indie pop debut albums ever to come out of the dusty Southwest. The lilting, almost angelic lyrics of John Brophy are backed by simplistically quaint but effective melodies. Strums of acoustic guitar are offset by the brisk melodic plinks of a xylophone or the slow burn of a high-pitched electronic surge."

For the Albuquerque Journal

"Wax Lips and Hummingbirds, is an album that shifts back and forth from enigmatic cacophony to pure pop harmony and makes me imagine I'm slowly floating down a lazy river in my rowboat. On mild hallucinogens, perhaps. The independently recorded and mastered album also represents an accomplishment in production; it's clear and professionally mixed, but completely unpretentious. Rife with hits and compositional brilliance, I predict this album will find its way into the hearts of more than a few who listen to it."

Happy harcore pop! The eqivalent of Architecture in Helsinki, and just as catchy
author: E.S. Green
Perfect for those happy harcore fans of Architecture In Helsinki, an amazing concoction of joyful pop songs, and soothing melodies. Though if you have a low tolerance for overly happy songs, you may want to skip the first few tracks, for they are oozing with happy goo. If you like anything indie and happy, go for it! Great album.

Fans of Architecture in Helsinki, eat your hearts out.

Okay, I'm getting this out of the way first. This album freakin' rocks. Yes, fans of Architecture in Helsinki will swoon. This album is at the very most basic a more Beatle-fied and brass sectionless AIH, with all of the cuteness intact. Despite that, it stands alone. GP is NOT a copy band. That's what's so great about this album. It's so unique. It's mellow at times, cheery at other times, and melodic at all times. Breathy vocals. Tasty electronic bits. Blissfully brainless (and I mean that in a good way, that's what bubblegum is, right?) lyrics, often about girls. What's not to like? Highly suggested.
