notes

The Ginn Sisters (that’s a hard “G”, like gutsy or girls) have taken the legacy of great Americana music from previous generations, within their family and beyond, and recast it with their own stories, sounds and instincts. In a world of music split between rowdy bars and the delicate music of listening rooms and songwriting contests, The Ginn Sisters are able to turn a biker bar into a listening room. People just listen.

In the winter of ’05/’06 they went into Bradley Kopp’s studio and recorded 13 songs for their June ‘06 release, Blood Oranges. The much-anticipated follow-up to 2003’s critically acclaimed “Generally Happy” presents a sure-footed and mature take on a wide variety of roots music styles. This album is about great songwriting, stunning melody vocals, lush, bold harmonies, sass and soul.

Tiffani sings lead, plays guitar and writes the songs. She has been on stage as a singer and a dancer since her earliest days. Her writing reflects her upbringing: Country, Folk, and Blues woven with delicious melodies, compelling characters and universal experiences. She sings spot-on lead with a powerful and athletic voice that can sparkle, smolder and drive.

Brit sings harmonies and plays melodica and flute. Her harmonies blend seamlessly and beautifully. They range from traditional to quirky and are always just the right ingredient. Her virtuoso flute playing, honed by years of formal study, and homespun melodica playing lend an instrumental expression that is both masterful and instinctive.

Tiffani and Brit Ginn have been singing and playing music together for over 20 years. Born just 13 months apart into a musical family in Schulenburg, TX, they grew up with a solid foundation of great music. In 2003 they brought their stunning harmonies to Austin where Tiffani’s songwriting and Brit’s already potent flute playing have both blossomed.

They followed up the release of their critically acclaimed first CD “Generally Happy” with relentless touring all over the US, playing great venues, and playing shows with Americana Music stars like Robert Earl Keen, Delbert McClinton, and Fred Eaglesmith.

Both of these women bring remarkable talents and skills to the table, but it is the combination that creates the magic that is The Ginn Sisters. Their country-inflected Americana music plays well to a wide variety of audiences. Fans of Eliza Gilkyson, The Be Good Tanyas, The Green Cards, and Patty Griffin are natural fans of the Ginn Sisters.

  • We love this album. It reminds of the Dixie Chicks' earlier music. Beautiful musicians!

  • Excellent work! Songs, arrangements and performance all great!
    author: Don Josephson

Reminds me in some ways of early Dixie Chicks....maybe its the Texas twang! We love the lyrics, the harmonies, basically everything about it. Mixes great with lots of our alt country and bluegrass stuff. Not over-produced like most of the FM radio playlists.

  • Great musicianship and ensemble work.

It's a great CD. Very sensitive playing throughout. Awesome songwriting. Tight vocals. Ethereal flute playing.

  • This CD is one of my top 5 favorite albums to paint to.
    author: Marisa

Hey Brit and Tiff! It's Marisa from Nashville (even though I'm back in Kansas!). I FINALLY got ahold of my own copy of this CD and I am still as equally impressed as the first time I heard it. You girls are damn good at what you do!

  • Love it all but the cover
    author: Bruce G

I first heard 2 Cool 2 Cry on the Radio and waited days to hear it again and find out who was singing. Then the same station played Playing Chicken on a Dead End Road and I was hooked. Great voices, wonderful interplay, but the cover, well, that could use some work.

  • Are there better harmonies out there?
    author: B. Tousignant

Singing together for 20 years and they deserve to be an overnight sensation! This disc is chock full of harmonies to die for. Check out track #2, "Broken Spirit" for what should be song of the year!

  • Fantastic CD!
    author: G Redworth

Powerful lyrics and tunes that get stuck in my head in a good way! Whenever I listen to this CD I recall how dynamic the Ginn Sisters are in concert.

  • a fusion of magical music and luscious lyrics
    author: Rock House Concerts

Blood Oranges is the fusion of magical music and luscious lyrics. The richly arranged melodies are the perfect dream, and Bradley and Larry play guitar like demons while the sisters harmonize like a pair of country angels on amphetamines. Heartfelt and nicely penned, the lyrics are more powerful than the performance itself. Bright and clever, funny and tragic, introspective and personal, this finely fashioned poetry is the purest component of their music. Congratulations to the Ginn Sisters for such a fabulous follow-up! It makes me generally happy.

  • absolutely awesome!
