ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Co-produced with Bob Harris, Joyful Sign features the band’s folk/pop/bluegrass sound but with a sense of confidence, energy and spirit that the trio has become known for live. The album is a showcase for memorable, well-crafted songs, graced by the group’s signature three-part harmonies. And after six years of living, playing and touring together, the chemistry between Doris, Ty, and Nate has never been more evident. The members of Girlyman, all classically trained, trade off songwriting duties and a slew of instruments including acoustic guitar, banjo, baritone guitar, djembe and mandolin. “We’re also big harmony geeks,” adds Greenstein. “Our arrangements definitely reflect that.”

Always worth a listen!
There are moments on this CD which are absolutely sublime. The best of the writing is excellent and, as usual, the vocals are extraordinary. I have to say that I would take issue with some of the production decisions: I find the snare drum sound a bit distracting. . . I loved the percussion on the first two albums and also the way pedal steel was used so subtly. (I'm afraid of sounding like one of the people who booed when Dylan went electric). I certainly understand Girlyman's desire to experiment and broaden their boundaries and I DO recommend the album but I played the first two non-stop for weeks (I have two copies of each so that I can keep one in the house and one in the car). I haven't found myself doing that with this one.

Joyful Sign
I can not remember the last time I absolutely fell in LOVE with an album like I did with Joyful Sign. There is pure magic in the harmonies, the lyrics are thoughtful,fun,poetic- and the melodies are the kind that find a niche in my head and happily bounce around in there all day.
I LOVE these guys!

Another Fine CD
Another fine CD, by the best acoustic group to emerge in the last several years. All three members are accomplished singers, songwriters and musicians, but what makes this group really special is the care and thoughtfulness they put into their vocal arrangements--there really is nothing quite like it. A must have (as are their other two CDs).

You really awed us....
You really awed us at Falcon Ridge and again at the Boston Folk Festival. I have all 3 of your cds and love every minute of them! This one has the best cover yet! No one does 3 part harmony any better.

Define Harmony- see girlyman
From an EP at Falconridge Folk festival to this new album, i've been an avid listener. As a matter of fact, when I was trying to explain Harmony to my 2yr old I used Girlyman. Now almost 4 he recognized the new CD as them when I put it in. Awesome sounds, hope to catch you live at some point soon.

Girlyman is my new best music!
I swear there are spots on this CD that remind me of the snap and and fun of the music from the 70s Josie and the Pussycats, the snare is that infectious. But THIS music is completely unique and splendid. There is substance in the lyrics and an amazing range of style. The harmonies are purely blessed, and the shift from lead to harmony is effortless and perfect. The bluegrass spice provides an expertly administered flavor to the arrangements: the clarity of blended strings without the twang of hick. There is no weak song. You can\'t help but listen to this music and wish your friends were more Girlyman.

Incredible harmony in sound and presence - a MUST HAVE CD
I got my first opportunity to see Girlyman in concert in Seattle and they are awesome! The music (especially on this new release) is genuine, heartfelt and humorous including a song about Nate's 95 year old grandma. An incredible mix of ballads, banter and self named "girlygrass". There are no boundaries for the fans of this kind of music though I always support - members of the tribe-

OMG
i don't know how you guys can get better and you keep doing it. the songs just keep getting sweeter and richer and the arrangements please me to my folkie soul. Thank you.

Girlyman does it again
This is a solid cd with beautiful harmony. Joe Chellman's drumming adds great character to Girlyman's already polished form. If you haven't caught them live yet, make the time - we've seen them all over the country and have never been disappointed.
