Album Notes

Co-produced with Bob Harris, Joyful Sign features the band’s folk/pop/bluegrass sound but with a sense of confidence, energy and spirit that the trio has become known for live. The album is a showcase for memorable, well-crafted songs, graced by the group’s signature three-part harmonies. And after six years of living, playing and touring together, the chemistry between Doris, Ty, and Nate has never been more evident. The members of Girlyman, all classically trained, trade off songwriting duties and a slew of instruments including acoustic guitar, banjo, baritone guitar, djembe and mandolin. “We’re also big harmony geeks,” adds Greenstein. “Our arrangements definitely reflect that.”

Joyful Sign

I can not remember the last time I absolutely fell in LOVE with an album like I did with Joyful Sign. There is pure magic in the harmonies, the lyrics are thoughtful,fun,poetic- and the melodies are the kind that find a niche in my head and happily bounce around in there all day. I LOVE these guys!

Girlyman is my new best music!
author: Doug Tennant
I swear there are spots on this CD that remind me of the snap and and fun of the music from the 70s Josie and the Pussycats, the snare is that infectious. But THIS music is completely unique and splendid. There is substance in the lyrics and an amazing range of style. The harmonies are purely blessed, and the shift from lead to harmony is effortless and perfect. The bluegrass spice provides an expertly administered flavor to the arrangements: the clarity of blended strings without the twang of hick. There is no weak song. You can\'t help but listen to this music and wish your friends were more Girlyman.

Another Fine CD
author: Bruce
Another fine CD, by the best acoustic group to emerge in the last several years. All three members are accomplished singers, songwriters and musicians, but what makes this group really special is the care and thoughtfulness they put into their vocal arrangements--there really is nothing quite like it. A must have (as are their other two CDs).
