Esta formación comenzó en el verano de 2003 con el objeto de crear un repertorio de jazz homogéneo basado en el "Jazz gitano francés" , estilo creado por el guitarrista Belga, afincado en Francia Django Reinhardt que originó en los años 30 esta forma "afrancesada" de Jazz caracterizada por ser muy rítmica, muy "guitarrística" y con mucho "swing".

En estos años fueron muchos los músicos de jazz americanos que viajaron a París fusionando el swing con las evocadoras melodías parisinas que sonaban en los románticos cafés de la ciudad.
La idea no era repetir exactamente los mismos temas, sino utilizar el mismo concepto estético añadiendo temas propios, arreglos y detalles actuales, imprimiendo nuestro sello personal en las improvisaciones, siguiendo la línea de Martin taylor y Bireli lagrene, dos de los guitarristas que mas representan la idea de Django.

La música de Gitanes destaca por un fuerte sentido melódico, desarrollado sobre la base de un rápido swing que nos hace seguirlo con el pie. Nos evoca al ambiente de los cafés de París, al impresionismo, pero también a nuestro sur y a su influencia atlántica.


"This band was born in summer 2003. Its aim was to create a homogeneous jazz repertoire based on the "Gypsy French Jazz". This style was created by the Belgian guitarist settled in France Django Reinhardt. In the 30s decade, he originated this kind of frenchified jazz characterized by being very rhythmical, very strumming and full of swing. At that time, many American jazz musicians travelled to Paris fusing swing with the evocative Parisian melodies that sounded in the romantic cafés of the city.

The idea did not mean to repeat the same musical pieces exactly, but to use the same aesthetic concept adding our own themes, putting our own stamp on the improvisations, following in Martin Taylor and Bireli Lagrene´s steps, two of the guitarists that interpret Djiango´s idea best.

Gitanes´music emphasizes a strong melodic sense, based on a quick swing that makes us move our foot. It evokes not only the atmosphere of the Parisian cafés, the Impressionism, but also our Southern Andalucian beat and its Atlantic influence."
