Album Notes

Greg's music can be described as combining simplicity in melody and dynamics with the complexity that comes with creativity and musicianship.

His music takes on a more balanced approach, striving to stay away from the extremes of the 80's "shredders" and today's minimalistic alternative/punkrock scene.

Greg's music draws from the styles of bands such as Dream Theater/Liquid Tension Experiment, Spock's Beard, Dixie Dregs, Kansas and Yes.

A few days ago I was browsing at CDBABY to check out new artists and I found Greg Jones. When I read the title of the album I thought he was just another shredder...... However, I managed to check out the audio files and I was blown away!!! I ordered the cd immediately and let me tell you something, it is worth of every penny. Greg Jones is an outstanding musician, yes A MUSICIAN, and a great guitar player as well. The music is very eclectic, mixing a lot of influences in a very original way, I would call it WHITE MUSIC. See, most of the upcoming artists are looking for darkness and sometimes, the darker the music is, the better......and I have witnessed this, but Greg composes in a different way so every time you play this music you feel a burst of good energy entering your soul. The cd is instrumental and you can hear some influences like Dream Theater (when they cared about the melodies...), Return to Forever and some old Kansas, my old time classic progressive band but again, the music has been composed in a very original way. The production is great and in your face. Actually, I can't believe it is this good!! The mix is superb! The music rocks, and it is energized with a solid rhythm section and wonderful guitar playing courtesy of Mr. Jones. I love the tone of his guitar, and I love the way he hit the melodies and every solo in the album. Also, I love the keyboard parts in every song because it pushes them to a new dimension. It clearly shows that he worked so hard to achieve this awesome music and sound. We, the fans of progressive rock have to support independent artists like Greg Jones if we want to have a continous flow of progressive music in the future, otherwise, we will be forced to play old classics over and over......

Soaring sounds; flowing textures; inspired!

As I listen to this CD I am treated to an uplifting mix of texture and tone. Greg has orchestrated the guitar, keys, percussion and more into a palette of colorful sounds. Though he is featuring his skills as a guitarist, his masterful songwriting and arrangement have kept this CD from being a "shredder-sampler." The keyboards enhance, and sometimes highlight, this progressive rock masterpiece. As a fan of some of the classic prog-rock projects such as Kansas, the Dregs and others, I can say this collection will fit into my "stranded on a desert island must-have" list. If you haven't bought this CD already, do so! More people need to hear songs like this. Formula radio and advertiser driven pop music do not offer the menu of talent and skill as provided by Greg Jones on String Theory.
