Album Notes

A pasticcio of music by Haendel and Monteverdi assembled by Ralph Daniel Rawe (La Nouba), music adapted by Benoit Glazer (Cirque du Soleil).

The classic roman tale of friendship and love between Nero, Ottone, and Poppea, retold in a new way. All killer, no filler. Ralph has done a great job of assembling segments of recitatives from twenty operas to create a libretto that is concise, precise, and powerful.

Intense, emotional music, played by a 12 piece chamber orchestra composed of some of the better musicians in Orlando.

Masterfully sung by David Walker (who has an international career and has sung throughout the world, includin at the Met), Ralph Daniel Rawe (La Nouba), and Michelle Amato (Yanni).

The opera was performed in concert form at the Timucua Concert Series, and is likley to be produced soon.

Loved it! Clever adaptation and fantastic countertenor singing.

A clever retelling of the story of Poppea and Nero, ala Monteverdi's "Poppea". The pastiche is mostly Handelian, but it works well. The solo singing is first class. I bought the CD mostly to hear David Walker, but was more impressed with Ralph Daniel Rawe. The distinctive timbres of the two male artists was very pleasant. The closing duet from "Poppea" was certainly necessary and is one of my favorite pieces of music. However,I always feel something is lacking when the male voice isn't a tenor even though such an adaptation is not authentic. Anyway, very enjoyable! I'd love to see it staged!
