Glenda Is Splenda!
author: Sandy Shore - smoothjazz.com
You know we're always on the look-out for new vocalists. It's our feeling that smooth and unique vocals are a very important texture to the music mix that has come to be known as "Smooth Jazz". We’re excited about the songs and evocative voice styling of Canada's Glenda Rae on ANOTHER DAY. Ms. Rae has been writing songs for other artists with well known West Coast musician Miles Black (they have penned over 160 tunes), but this is her first solo CD, surprisingly enough. In addition to the cool blending of jazz and rock, we’re particular impressed by the singer's crystal clear voice and singing abilities -- the press release claims that her range hits nearly four octaves! Also important to note is that Glenda’s vocals where captured without extreme digital enhancements and the ever-popular, “auto-tuning”. Accompanied by her touring band (Miles Black-keyboards, Brett Wade-guitars, Rene Worst-bass and Tony Chamberlist-drums/percussion) she knocked out the bed tracks for this CD in just two days! Our girl has the spirit of Lauren Wood, the spunk of Bonnie Raitt, the soul of Etta James, and the sweetness of Brenda Russell on some songs and Cheryl Wheeler on others. Songs on ANOTHER DAY that fill the bill for us here include the hip and funk-tinged, “I Feel Your Pain”, the jazzy and fluid, “A Change In My Life”, the lovely and delicate, “Restless”, the moody and introspective, “A Face In The Crowd” and the smooth and jazzy, “Finding You”. Simply put, Glenda is splenda! ~Sandy Shore
