Glenn Douglas Reid was born in Waverley, Nova Scotia, raised in Montreal, Quebec, and has spent most of his adult life in Toronto, Ontario although his music has taken him all over Canada many times. A very proud Canadian, Glenn’s music often reflects his love of his country and the people therein.
Before settling on performing and songwriting as a career Glenn spent time as an aircraft mechanic in the Canadian Armed Forces, an apprentice electrician for Canadian National Railways, and as a cook for various restaurants. Glenn’s love of cooking remains to this day, although the main beneficiaries of his hobby these days are his wife Cindy and their dinner guests.
Glenn’s musical influences are many and varied. From his jazz drumming father Crawford comes a love of big bands and crooners. From his square dancing Nova Scotian mother Greta, a love of traditional country artists such as hank Williams Sr., hank Snow, Patsy Cline, et al. Coming of age through the 60’s and 70’s brought Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and Buddy Holly, followed by peace loving pop icons like the Beatles, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and Credence Clearwater Revival. Traces of all these influential creators can be found in Glenn’s music to this day.
All of Glenn’s songs come from personal experiences and the people who have shared them. His current Bambrick Records release entitled “Workin’ Man” reflects this, with songs about his early union days (the title track), his late mother (Your Name), falling in love (Never Change a Thing), his teenage daughter (All My Songs) and struggles with those inner demons we all have (Another Hank Williams Night).
After his first single release on Hillcrest 31 entitled “Have a Good Life” received so much attention around the world receiving airplay in over 40 countries on over 140 radio stations and at different times charting in the weeks top 40 songs in France, Denmark, Austria, Belgium and the UK Glenn, with the helpful guidance of Ross Allen at Hillcrest Music, decided to release “Another Hank Williams Night” as the follow up single on Hillcrest 33.
The next Glenn Reid/Bambrick Records CD is set for a spring 2007 release, the working title is “I’m In” and the new songs reflect, again, Glenn’s experiences through falling in love, battling cancer (and winning, so far), getting married, reflecting on his beloved Nova Scotia and much, much more. Also on the new CD will be, included as a bonus track, Glenn’s first recorded Christmas song entitled “This Christmas Time”.
As Ross Allen at Hillcrest is wont to say, “The best is yet to come!”
