Album Notes

: Glen Simpson was born in Williamson, WV and now resides in Hardy, Ky. A multi-talented performer, Glen uniquely fuses mountain and folk instrumentation with lyrics of everyday life. Audiences delight in the hidden wit in his original tunes.

Playin' In the Hills is Glen's seventh release on his own Tomato Gravy Records. Glen plays clawhammer banjo, mandolin, guitar, harmonica and sings most of the harmonies. Guest fiddler, Jimmy McCown, was founding member of "Outdoor Plumbing Company" and with his wife Ada, they now play the Old Time circuit.

The versatility of Glen’s songwriting has captured the attention of a diverse following. His ballad, “Red Robin Inn”, was performed live on Mountain Stage public radio program by host, Larry Groce. Glen’s CD “Up The Holler” was a “Independent Music Awards” 2002 finalist for album of the year. He has also performed at the “Woodsongs Radio Hour”, Joe Dobbs Show on W. Va. Public Radio stations, Aunt Jenny Wilson Festival in Logan, W. Va., Vandalia Gathering in Charleston, W. Va. and many others.

This is an excellent CD by an independent artist with roots in West Virginia and Kentucky. You can hear Simpson's talent shine through as he plays several different instruments. The song writing is original and if you like folk, bluegrass or mountain music, you'll love this CD. There is a good selection of songs with a solid mix. I rate this CD very high and recommend that collectors of this genre of music make the purchase. I also have other CDs by this artist and have been impressed with his music and talent for several years.
