A breath of fresh air in a sea of uncertainty.
author: David Davis
Ah, life. There is such a glut of female folk on the market, its hard to discern the good from the not-so-good. I never put something in the bad category, because there's rarely anything bad about creating a music from your feelings. Every once in a while, a breath of fresh air comes along, in a tense sea of uncertainty. While most people are writing about love lost, anger and overall basic issues with life, Gloria Taylor is professing the love of life itself. She embodies what I like about music in the first place, sharing your deepest hearts desire about why you love your life or why you fell in love in the first place. From learning your karmic lessons, to letting go of your baggage and moving on, to the subtle and deep message of the title track of this CD, you will be pleased with what you hear. For an independent artist, this album is well produced. The backup harmonies are remeniscent of the latter part of the sixties folk scene. But its Gloria's voice that stands above the music, through and through. She has a buttery voice that melts straight through to the heart. You just get to feel the healing qualities that a voice of such a vibration has to offer. Ever since I received my copy, I play it at least once a day, if not more. I've played it for everyone at my office, and at a cigar shop that I work for part-time. The response to this CD has been overwhelming amoungst those people that I play it for. To which, there have been orders placed for a copy of their own.
Pick up a copy, sit back, and tune out the world for awhile. Listen to the lyrics, and hear that there is more to life than chasing our material dreams. Get lost in the title track, It Just Is What It Is. And enjoy the passion that she unleashes from the very depths of her soul. She is a gem and truly a breath of fresh air.
