In Good and Evil - best of both!
author: Damien Maynard
While I think this band stands alone for "feel", I could not help but compare them to Evanescence, Tristania, Naio Ssaion, Within Temptation, Theatre Of Tragedy, Nightwish and The Sins Of Thy Beloved. I love all of those bands so this is a good thing.
The vocal versatility of the Lady Godyva is wonderful - especially her little girl whisper, husky-lusty woman and soaring operatics on Intimate, Flame Flower and Broken Angel. I loved the "Queensryche Operation Mindcrime"-style guitars on Broken Angel.
The band really pumps the power chords beneath the vocals on every track.
I was right into the keyboards (as a keyboard player myself) - especially on Purified and Broken Angel.
I would love to see a live version of Flame Flower with a big crowd getting into it. Broken Angel really sees the guitars stomping about like wonderful beasts but I felt a "stereotypical" soaring guitar solo to match or meet the vocals would not have been amiss.
The Lullacry-like vocals on the title track were great.
Cold brought to mind some interesting images and I would love to see a video clip for this song. The last track, Blue Shadows, really built the expectation and anticipation - like impending loss or doom....and then it ended! I would love to hear what they do next!

Cool and gothy!

A great cd of gothic metal by this Italian outfit, fronted by the aptly named Lady Godyva. A reference point for this album would be Lacuna Coil and at times Evanescence, and on the odd occasion, we see Lady Godyva's vocals flirting with the operatic. A cd I have lived with for a while now, and through it's 12 tracks which clock up at just over the hour, it's enjoyable stuff - good production too.
