Produced in conjunction with the nationally touring Visualizing the Blues exhibition, Goin' Down South represents Southern blues from traditional delta slide-guitar blues to more contemporary electric blues like The Daddy Mack Blues Band. Produced by Inside Sounds of Memphis, the CD features Sandy Carroll, junkyardmen, Billy Gibson, Blind Mississippi Morris, Last Chance Jug Band, Lorette Velvette, Bobby Little, David Evans, Danny Lancaster, Jason Freeman, Mose Vinson, and the never before released title track by R.L. Burnside. The songs represent an interesting mix of blues styles and instrumentation.
Goin' Down South is a diverse blues collection, yet holds together as a cohesive listening experience - it is the definitive Memphis/North Mississippi blues sampler.
