Album Notes

The Troubles is well-conceived and modern. It's full of lush interplay and carefully developed parts for
guitars, piano, strings, accordion, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, Wurlitzer, Hammond organ, and trumpet.
The detailed production is full of effects that recall the Beatles and other pop masterpieces.

The group takes its name from the idea of “leaving homes and former lives behind to get on the path to
where you want to be.” True to their philosophy, GBH toured the U.S. extensively in 2009, visiting over ten
states. In December 2009, they joined five-time Grammy winner Bela Fleck & the Flecktones while
performing at the 2nd Annual Chicago Blues and Bluegrass Festival.

The distinct sound Goodbyehome reaps on The Troubles is owed to Ellis Clark's production as well as
talented musicians. The live line-up includes: Greg Jackson Combs (guitar and lead vocals), Jeff Brown
(lead guitar), Michael Vez (bass), and Jim Lordeman (drums). The group recently added a new classicallytrained
violinist, Sarah Wong. The Troubles is peppered with 3-part vocal harmonies.

The album's executive producer is Michael Teach of CAU Records and Chicago Acoustic Underground.
Artwork for the album was completed by renowned Chicago visual artist Emmy Star Brown and includes
bright, eye-catching colors that hint at the sonic, unstoppable energy within.

Primary songwriter and front man Greg Combs developed the title “The Troubles” for the album working
with Nashville songwriter John Zambricki. The title refers to the Irish Catholic-Protestant war, which is
simply called “the troubles” by people faced with its constant hardship. Combs says, “Life is constant
tragedy and trouble, but it can essentially inspire hope and art.”

“The Troubles is a great segway between old ideas and new ones. It has a modern approach but with respect
towards the previous generation of folk, rock, and country,” shares Combs. “Anyone can find something
they like here.”
