Album Notes

goodbyemotel
“It’s not too bold a statement to say goodbyemotel are one of the finest indie rock bands currently plying their trade.” Inpress Magazine.
“Your new favourite band = goodbyemotel” Live Review The Brag, Sydney
goodbyemotel’s music combines intensity, energy and building crescendos contrasted with sparse arrangements, rich melodies, harmonies and a pop sensibility.
It all started in 2006 when goodbyemotel started to take shape after members kept crossing paths in the local Melbourne music scene. Not long after goodbyemotel released their debut EP “Information”. The EP was well received and goodbyemotel toured “Information” nationally.
Come 2007 it was time to record again. Producer Kalju Tonuma (Crowded House, Evermore) got together with the band and they picked an old church converted into a studio in Melbourne to record the second EP “End.Play”. It was then mastered in New York by Howie Weinberg (Jeff Buckley, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana).
The EP received airplay on Australian radio, along with indie and internet radio stations in the US and UK. “All that bad” was also released in the UK and “Hell out of here” was selected for a compilation CD in the US. It received amazing reviews such as “If this EP doesn’t conquer the world then there is seriously something wrong” Jeff Jenkins Howzat
Their debut album was released in September 2010. It was 3 years in the making, starting out in a beach house on the great ocean road and finished off at the renowned Sing Sing studios in Melbourne.
Following the albums release, US TV series “Gossip Girl” picked up the song “Last flight of the bat” which aired recently in the US and 40 other countries around the world. They also had three of their songs included in the new Australian movie “Summer Coda” and another song of the album “UFO” was selected for US series Covert Affairs and "Killer with a second thought" used in TV series Suits. Another song off the album “Watching you” recently won a competition in the US to feature on the Delta Airlines inflight radio program. The song also featured in the “End child slavery” national TV and MTV campaigns.
Storm Thorgerson, the album designer who created album sleeves for Led Zepplin, Muse, Peter Gabriel and most of Pink Floyd’s covers including “Darkside of the moon” has agreed to do goodbyemotel’s artwork for their second album. Being huge Pink Floyd fans this was a major coup for the guys who are incredibly proud to be working with Storm.
goodbyemotel have just released their latest EP "Wish your way" and are now touring the album. They are planning to record their next album before the year is out.
