Back in the 70's and early 80's Richmond, Virginia's Good Humor Band was busy tearing-up the nightclubs and roadhouses throughout D.C., Virginia and North Carolina with their brand of roots rock&roll, country and R&B.
After going their separate ways in '83, they went on to achieve success individually, recording with acts like Steve Earle, Bob Dylan, Delbert McClinton, Mary Chapin Carpenter, R.E.M., Ricky Skaggs and Sheryl Crow to name just a few.
Aided by their once a year reunion shows, their reputation has continually grown to a near cult status.
Their new disc features six new songs recorded recently in Nashville, as well as thirteen old gems culled from old studio masters and some very inspired live recordings.
Hear for yourself what one of the U.S. East Coast's most eclectic bands has to offer.

Blast from the past

I haven't heard the Good Humor Bands music in 30+ years. While listening to the CD it made me reflect back to the nights at "The Pass" jammin' to their music and many a drunkin' night. What a great band this was, they really knew how to get the crowd involved in the show. For anyone that ever caught one of their live shows, this is a must have CD for anyones collection.

GHB still "Never had too much fun."

Like NRBQ, The Good Humor Band might have lacked popularity
in the popular music press
but they never failed to "wow them" at a gig,
and had the respect of their peers.
I never met anyone who failed to have a extra-good time
seeing the GHB live.
This CD has managed to capture that fun feeling.
It rekindles the memories of fun nites in dim
smokey bars with the band members swapping instruments,
and rewriting lyrics
on the fly to perfectly fit the situation at hand.
Just as it was extreamly hard not to have fun at a GHB show,
its very hard not to enjoy this CD.
The songs may seem to be a little "dated" these days,
but isnt the Mona Lisa "dated" in just the same way

NRBQ meets Bob Wills on Laughing Gas

A legendary East Coast bar band that I'd never heard of due to geographical differences until this CD was released and an ex-girl friend called to tell me about it, the Good Humor Band's self-titled disc slips on like the proverbial pair of worn blue jeans. Versatile and running the gamut from alt-country originals to surf rock ("Tel-Star") the CD displays an awful lot of verve, fun, fine musicianship and even some down and dirty heartache.
Alums - who include Evan Johns, Michael McAdam, Steve Bassett - are pros who've also toured/recorded with the likes of Steve Earle, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Steve Forbert, Bob Dylan, Delbert McClinton, Los Lobos, Willie Nelson, etc. - the usual tasteful suspects. It shows.
'Nuff said. Buy it or suffer the consequences.
