Goon are a five-piece hard rocking ska band from Northern Europe. They come from the small town Karhula in Finland. In 2001 a group of young people came along with a question: What do you do in a Finnish small town when everybody else plays heavy metal? They had two choices. Whether they would start playing heavy metal which they hated or they would have to do something else. They decided to do something else and Goon was formed.
Back then these young fellows digged such bands as Rancid, Mad Caddies and The Slackers. It was clear at the very beginning that Goon would do own music and perform its own songs. At first the influences sounded more clearly on the music of Goon but pretty soon the guys realized that the traditional Finnish music had something more to offer. So the Slavic and Balkan melodies which are typical for Finnish music were thrown in to the mixture without forgetting the roots of the band. The unique mixture of hard hitting ska beat and traditional sounding Finnish melodies was formed.
Also in the very beginning of Goon story it was decided that Goon would sing in Finnish. It's the official language of Finland and quite rarely spoken worldwide. Only about five million people speak Finnish. The topics of the lyrics deal with themes like unemployment, dominance of big companies and the climate change but having good time and partying as well. The lyrics tend to examine the world rather than declare one and only truth about it. Goon want to get people think.
It's been a long way since 2001 and Goon have been doing a lot of shows in the Northern Europe and releasing albums. Now for the very first time Goon is released in the States by Megalith Records and the journey of Goon in the ska scene continues.
