Album Notes

I began writing songs in Virginia at age 12 then hitchhiked to California at 18 with only a $20 bill in my pocket. In Hollywood, while working odd jobs during the day, I attended several traditional popular-style songwriting workshops and seminars at night as well as studied music with various instrumental schools and teachers while learning how to play acoustic guitar and electric bass. After nearly 10 years of studying Top 40 hits, playing in a variety of bands throughout the Los Angeles area, and recording over 100 demo-level sessions, I relocated to Nashville, unwittingly shipping 75 very large boxes via General Delivery. Upon arriving in Guitar City, I was told by a very angry Nashville postmaster that General Delivery was only for a letter and that I had the largest General Delivery in USPS history (sorry). Using Nashville as my home base, I then played in several local bands until performing Top 40 in a traveling band nonstop for five shows a night, six nights a week for two years across the Deep South and Midwest to Nebraska and back again. Eventually, I settled back home in Richmond where I would rewrite the songs I had written by performing them at hundreds of local open mic night shows during a 10-year period. Now, after a lifetime of songwriting, I finally recorded my first CD: Ten Tales To Be Told. I would consider my songwriting style “popular Americana.”
