SOULMATES represents an effort of several years putting together original music and arrangements at a time when Gorrell was pursuing a Master's degree in Music and also actively booking "The Jazz Company" at venues around the Midwest.
"Brian Gorrell and The Jazz Company" is considered by many to be Oklahoma's premier contemporary jazz band. The group was originally formed in 1995 when Brian returned to Oklahoma after performing with The Lawrence Welk Orchestra. The Jazz Company performs a wide variety of styles including traditional & contemporary jazz, funk & latin styles. Their music focuses on original compositions by Brian Gorrell & Shane Conaway and they also perform material by other composers as diverse as Billy Strayhorn, Victor Young, Marcus Miller, & Pat Metheny.
The Jazz Company completed their debut album:
IN SOME OTHER WORLD
also featuring Mr. Eric Leonard on trombone in 1995.
This second album:
SOULMATES
was released in 2000 and is widely available.
In 2002 The Jazz Company completed a unique third album:
IN THE SWING OF CHRISTMAS
And, in 2009 The Jazz Company completed a new two-CD live album entitled:
LIVE AT THE UCO JAZZ LAB
All four of these albums are now available at CD Baby.
