'City Walls', his latest release and first LP in almost six years, marks a new chapter in Andy's musical journey. On this his second album recorded at Melbourne's Incubator Studios, Andy treads unfamiliar terrain deviating somewhat but not abandoning the country tinged sound and lyric that characterised his 2002 debut. Here Gorwell embarks on a journey with an audacious exploratory spirit that pushes boundaries and broadens musical horizons. The disc has a strong country blues edge but embraces eclecticism with brazen artistic flexibility, which sees him comfortably negotiate several genres including rock, blues, soul, and altcountry. The songs and vocals have a poignant sullenness that together with equally brooding instrumentation, consisting of mournful lap steels, angry guitars and weeping violins, invokes a breadth of emotion and demonstrates new depths in song writing maturity.
With the help of some of Melbourne's finest musicians including Peter Pascotto on drums, Nicolas Lyon on violin, Michael Hubbard on lap steel and Brendan Mitchell on pedal steel, Andy has put together a finely crafted and musically diverse second offering that should find an appreciative audience and raise a few eyebrows.
J Bodde,"Radio Girl" Radio Winsschooten, Netherlands, May 2008, "..I'm most certainly pleased with this album..Theres no escaping from the real emotion.. City Walls will definately become one of your favourite cd's.."

"City Walls" by Andy Gorwell is an impressive bluesy rock CD. Andy's raspy vocals are very effective on these raw rock tracks. The production on the CD provides a cool, retro 60s rock feel. There was a lot of energy in the tracks we checked out. "Drifting Away from you" is a song about a relationship that effectively uses a slide guitar to evoke a strong emotional feel. "Be My Little Queeny" has a very catchy chorus, and includes an impressive bluesy guitar solo. If you enjoy the music of the Rolling Stones, you'll enjoy this CD. Check it out.
