Influenced by the socially conscious side of thrash, the burgeoning groove metal scene and the harder side of what came to be called "alternative" as well as the more traditional genres of jazz and early psychedelia, Gospel on Whetsel paved a path less traveled by heavy rock bands. This quartet infused diverse musical influences, sophisticated musicianship, intricate song writing, and a street-wise commentary into a complex yet in-your face sound steeped in truth and illuminating visuals.
