Certainly 'Jazz-Meets-Hip Hop' projects are as common today as 'Jazz-Rock' was in the Seventies. However what separates Gottshall´s The Golem Shuffle from others in its genre is the fact that its 'street rhythms' are enriched by an energetic and elastic Bebop, and a vital, explosive, powerful trombone sound.

Everything but the Golem!

The legendary Golem was unformed & imperfect - a body without a soul. The Golem Shuffle is the very embodiment of soul! My usual 5 stars is a Golem with at least two additional layers of soul. This CD tops that: 1. Bone blowing that has sent me in search of more, 2. Proof that D Chambers is more than a Golem (my many other DC CDs tend toward ubermensch drumming), and 3. Cover art that's over the top!
