A man of diversified tastes and interests, Graham Leathers is among the most creative people in the industry. Those familiar with the "filk" genre will know what this artist is about. From thought provoking to belly laughs, Graham delivers an eclectic blend of multiple styles ranging from blues and rock, to traditional Celtic, Bluegrass and contemporary folk music. Graham is a veteran of stage, screen and radio. He has worked as an extra in many movies, in numerous stage plays as a veteran of the Western Canadian Fringe Festival circuit and voiced multiple characters in radio plays, and appeared on "Madly off in All Directions", one of CBC Radio's top national comedy showcases. He is multi- faceted enough to have hosted a few cooking shows on local community TV.
Graham attributes most of his influences to Stan Rogers, Steve Goodman, Spike Jones and Bugs Bunny. He plays guitar, 5-string banjo, bodhran and fills in the cracks with a bit of keyboard.
Graham has been performing in one aspect or another for most of his life be it as a musician, actor, singer/songwriter, playwright and vaudeville entertainer. He has gone from busking to playing thousand seat venues with some of the best entertainers in Canada. "Reality Check!" marks the first solo CD project in Graham's achievements. It combines a blend of all new arrangements of previously released songs from his tapes "Delusions of Grandeur" and "Licence to Busk" as well as some all new never before released tunes from recent years. Blessed with a quick wit, a playful sense of the whimsy as well as a more touching side, Graham promises a musical romp you will want to listen to over and over again. Go ahead. Add this one to your cart. You won't regret it.

CD Review - Graham Leathers' REALITY CHECK!
Graham Leathers' Reality Check! has Canadian Content. You don't need the "Made in Canada" label to know that; just listen to this 48 minutes of music! Of the thirteen tracks on this list, Graham's ten own songs are the very definition of True North Country; his two traditional selections, "Star of the County Down" and "Leave Her" reflect its immigrant heritage, and his one cover, Andrea Dale's "Hunter", has the color of Forest Wild, of cold (Super-)Nature, red in tooth and claw. Not surprising from an outdoorsman who lives in Winnipeg, not too far away from the unpopulated Canadian Shield. The country-folk tradition shines through: the arrangements feature pipe, electrified guitar, banjo and fiddle, as well as a capella singing ("Leave Her"). This CD is self-produced by Graham, and the quality is stunning. I understand that he worked very hard at the mixing, and it certainly shows. Thus almost everything on the CD is either from Graham Leathers' dextrous hands or gravelly voice. The noted exceptions are Gord Leathers on Bass and Blaine Waldbauer on Fiddle. My favorite cuts? That's unfair, as I really like the album, and it would be easier to list the ones that I like less. Oh well, here are five I really like (in order of performance):
"A Well Earned Vacation"
"Nantucket Sleighride"
"Isolation" -- I was particularly taken by Mr. Waldbauer's fiddle on this track
"Don't Swear at Machinery"
and the subversive "Chocolate Is a Vegetable"
You are, of course, free to make up your own list of favorites -- when you get your copy of the CD.
