Album Notes

Grainne [pronounced Grawn-ya] Ryan hails from a small town north of Toronto. Of Irish descent, and the youngest of 5 musical children, she gracefully carries the legacy of generations of gifted musicians and artists.
Gifted with a natural artistic ability-both as a musician and a painter- she recorded her first song at age 4, a cover version of the Beatles “Baby You Can Drive My Car”.
Growing up, she listened to everything with a voracious appetite, from Irish reels to AC/DC, cumulating into her own distinct, warmly vintage sound often juxtaposed with modern-day social and environmental sentiments and concerns.

Grainne’s Debut recording “All The Money”, a 7 song EP produced by Chris “Lurch” Rudyk, is rapidly gleaning rave reviews from Canada to the Netherlands.
Recent Appearances on Roger’s Daytime, Take 5, It’s Alive/CIUT, All Over The Map/CKLN and airplay on CBC, CIUT,CKLN, Radio FM Goud/Belgium,Crossover Radio BRTO/Netherlands,Harris Radio/NYC are a growing testament to Grainne’s universal appeal and her ability to reach a wide, appreciative audience.

Grainne Ryan is an antidote to hollow artifice and insincerity. She wears the warmth of her heart and the strength of her hopes on her sleeve. The romantic activist in her believes that music can change people, and the world, for the better. And we, in turn, believe in her.

REVIEWS & PRESS
“..she transcends [him] Neil Young by transforming her multitracked voice into a one-woman Crosby,Stills,Nash. Someone find this woman a record company-fast.” Jeffrey Morgan’s Media Blackout-The Metro Times-Detroit (07/07)

“Ryan’s confident voice and straightforward rootsy songs are the balm for what ails you. And with songs like the swaggering “Souls and Shoes” you’ll find yourself recovered, up and dancing in record time”. Eye Weekly-Toronto (06/07)

“Grainne Ryan may be compared to Lucinda Williams a bit for her brand of alt.country/No Depression but I also hear a bit of Jonatha Brooks… In a better world “Brace Yourself” along with songs such as ‘Tree Frog’, ‘What You Are To Me’ and ‘Unfold’ would be getting a lot of airplay and the musicianship of her band would be celebrated around the world”. John Brooks-Music for America (06/07)

“Bet all your money and buy this wonderful sounding debut at once”. Leo Katestaart-Altcountry. NL (04/07)
“A pure voice, perhaps a little reminiscent of Sarah McLachlan … one to watch.” Kerry Doole-Tandem Magazine (05/07)

“..she is not only a great lyricist, but also an extremely gifted vocalist. ‘All The Money’ is an intimate masterpiece played with passion and pleasure. … Conclusion: an absolute must for those who melt listening to Aimee Mann, Lucinda Williams, Sarah Harmer….Freddy Celis-Roots Time (04/07)

All the Money
author: Victor Edwards
I'm just an old man who loves good music but can't often find it. But this lady is just about the best I have heard in many years. I can't imagine that some American Idol person is the CMA artist of the year when Granne is out there! Music has, on a popular level, died, but Granne is one person that has the potential to revive it again.

Grainne Ryan sings from the heart!
author: Ed
Grainne Ryan sings from the heart on this CD (All the Money.) Like she is aware from whom she receives this gift. To love the giver, more than the gift is truly inspiring today. Positive and encouraging lyrics, with a folk/rock style.

Major labels are missing out on a true talent
author: John Book, Music For America
Grainne Ryan may be compared to Lucinda Williams a bit for her brand of alt.country/No Depression, but I also hear a bit of Jonatha Brooke in the way Ryan sings and plays guitar. If you want one of those songs that makes a long country drive home seem endless, or perhaps you want to find yourself driving, never wanting to go home, the atmosphere of "Brace Yourself" offers this. The slide guitar (played by Drew Glackin has a similar vibe to how Jerry Garcia played on David Crosby's If I Could Only Remember My Name, and true to the spirit of the song, you almost don't want it to end. In a better world, "Brace Yourself", along with songs such as "Tree Frog", "What You Are To Me", and "Unfold" would be getting a lot of airplay and the musicianship of Ryan and her band would be celebrated around the world. I look forward to hearing what she's capable doing on a full length project, and if she isn't signed by a bigger label in 2008, people are missing out on a true talent.
