Album Notes

THE GRANNIES - "Incontinence", 2008 (Wondertaker)
Dishonorable discharge.

The inside of the latest GRANNIES disc features a quote from the band: "People always ask us, 'What's it like to be guys in a punkrock band that wears dresses?' And we always say, 'Fuck you.'"

Along with some compromising photos that you probably don't want to see, the package sets the tone for this latest release from our soldiers of support hose, our heroes of hard candy. It's puzzling why some of the originals didn't make it onto previous discs -- "Thong Depends" is a blazing, minute-long epic that recalls Larry Wallis-era MOTÖRHEAD. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll put on a shawl.

Otherwise, it's hard-hitting versions of GRANNIES-approved power pop and heavy rock classics. Are there any readers that don't have a version of THE SUPERSUCKERS' "She's My Bitch" played by a man in a flowered housecoat? If there are, the courteous staff at Wondertaker is happy to assist. The disc is scatter-shot with fast 'n loose originals and assorted wackiness. The band is kind enough to include a lineup history, in case you're interested in tracking down future solo albums from GRANNIES alumni like Dusty Titties and Buzzy Duchemore. There's even a version of ZZ TOP's "Just Got Paid" that you can play for your dad, so get on it. - Marchman
