Album Notes

Biography Grant Sparks is a talented singer songwriter and a dynamic performer. He has recently finished an independently released self titled CD. The music itself is simple and primarily acoustic while the delivery and lyrics are raw and profound. Adam Greenburg of Whitewater recording described it as "a bright-eyed honest delivery that really hits home". "The music I write doesn't seem to fall into any one category but has characteristics of many styles. As a native of the Appalachian Mountains I have particularly been influenced by blue grass and folk music, however, the soul and emotion of the blues plays a big part in my music." Grant is a native of Mitchell County in western North Carolina. He graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor's degree in Psychology and from East Tennessee State University with a master's degree in School Counseling. During these years Grant channeled his energy into writing and performing his own music. Eagar for outlets to express his talents, his musical career started when he began playing at local country clubs, restaurants and bars. He quickly gained recognition as a writer and performer and proceeded to perform in Asheville, Johnson City, Boone, Hickory and at the famous Blue Bird Café in Nashville Tennessee. Listeners find that with Grant it's not just about music, but passion. Passion for life, love and adventure. Songs like "Saving Grace", a song about life in a small town won "the Directors Award of Merit" in the Nashville International 2003 Summer Song & Lyric Contest, and "Dixie On The Door", a song about the ongoing North and South struggle, create a sense of nostalgia and longing for any listener. "Erwin" a true story about an unexpected train ride to Erwin Tennessee grabs your attention and drenches it in desperation leaving you saturated with emotions and still thirsty for more. Grant's music reaches into your soul and stirs the coals of life that we all find waning in this 24 x 7 pressure pot called life.

REVIEWS

The Grace of this Singer and his songs is Truly Amazing
author: Robert Ranson, Mooresville
I first heard Grant Sparks performing in person at Old Hotel on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I wasn't expecting much, but WOW! We bought a copy of this CD from him and there simply isn't a bad song on it. He paints such an incredible picture with his lyrics and melodies. He is phenominal and very unique; hard to classify...maybe call them balads, with a touch of blues...he takes me someplace special every time I listen.

Most of us are born out of pain, struggle and pressure. This first effort album is likewise a somewhat rough and unpolished diamond in the rough, but has potential with little effort to be brilliant. It has a big element of heart and soul, and I look forward to the next album, which I think will be even better.
