WOW, innovative combinations of instruments, melody, and tone
author: Julianne Guilbault
I find this CD to be incredibly smooth and easy to listen to. The use of instruments (most of which I was totally unaware existed) mixed with the unusual melodies give the selection of music a fresh and innovative approach. This is a CD that will stand apart from the rest and be remembered by the listener for it's unique quality in the interaction of instruments, melody, and tones. It draws the listener into a peaceful place of serenity that varies each time the CD is listened to.

This is by far the best GR album. The arrangements are simliar to that of the tortoise and the gryphon. Thank you Portland.

Ever notice how much tension you carry in your face? Your eyes, even? Ever really felt that place behind your eyes let go and in turn, feel your brain unclench? Graphic Recliner is the necessary soundtrack for that kind of cellular relaxation- that wonderful swimmy feeling in your head. With a deep, resonant and yes, even beautiful, mix of electronic and acoustic instruments, "Air Borneo" is like that warm flame that melts the pockets of compression in your thoughts. A dreamy, drifty and yet far from complacent album that, in the end, doesn't neglect to be interesting and intriguing.

Graphic Recliner's AIR BORNEO...Cammi Vance, January 2004
...Such a strange and evocative CD. Sit beside the meandering canal and listen to the afternoon memories of everything that floats slowly by:
an oil rainbow; a stickbug on a piece of wood; some bubbles; a pair of floating wishes; a fish with a cigarette, looking at you, asking why you left; a small raft with Jimi Hendrix sleeping on it and a few empty wine bottles.
Someone familiar calls to me from a strange dream. Shapeshifter clouds drift by in the sky above the sea outside the opium den. Inside, only one person and his quiet wild imaginings; outside, a step down into the sea... submersion. A relationship has begun: a giant whale and a submarine contemplate each other, remembering being lovers in a past life. A gaggle of young, squishy, one-eyed critters bounce by, landing on each other and making funny faces.
Quietly contemplative. From the macroscopic to the microscopic, AIR BORNEO sinks into the moment deeply and becomes ambiently aware of the music embedded in every detail of ordinary life when you blur your eyes a little...
The critters, slightly older and larger now, pass by in the other direction. Now they jump only slightly and rather roll over one another on their way by...
then they're gone.
A young flute finds its voice, begins to tell its story, little by little - the song of its life. Other voices are awakened. Everyone turns to mist and they slowly diffuse and blend. I absent-mindedly move an object around on my desk and think about how there really are no mistakes; your path is your path, no matter what you choose at the crossroads. Now I'm remembering a long journey, many travellers, quietly, slowly, steadily making their way at dusk, still a long way to go. A jeweled elephant lumbers through a jungle, under a waterfall, past a miniature dancer in a great cavern. Sometimes when I put on AIR BORNEO, a few of my ancestors come to listen. This CD is not recommended for driving or operating heavy machinery. Too many visions...
Not your average review, perhaps! But this is not your average CD. These were the impressions flowing into one another as I listened. Quite a variety of sensations, all at a similar level of ambience. I use it for massage only with clients that know themselves well and/or are up for an experience. It's rather haunting on a certain level. Definately trippy, and quite lovely. Thank you so much!
