Grass Routes marked their 20th anniversary with a name change (from Grass Roots to Grass Routes) and the release of their new CD "Grass Routes Twentieth Anniversary" that includes new material as well as some favorites from throughout their nearly quarter-century history.
Performing on the New England bluegrass scene for years, Grass Routes has appeared on radio and television and has pleased audiences at concerts, coffeehouses, festivals and many other venues throughout the Northeast.
The band features the traditional bluegrass instruments of banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and upright bass.
Grass Routes performs a broad repertoire of songs ranging from straight-ahead traditional bluegrass to more contemporary folk and country material.
Skillful instrumental work and strong vocals give them their own distinctive sound.
CD REVIEW/BLUEGRASS UNLIMITED MAGAZINE
March, 2002, page 65:
GRASS ROUTES - TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY . . . The twentieth anniversary for any organization is a significant event that definitely is worthy of celebration. For Grass Routes, it comes in the form of a compact disc containing a whopping assortment of 16 skillfully executed musical numbers. This New England-based band currently consists of Bill Reveley (mandolin, fiddle and vocals), Steve Brechter (banjo and vocals), Jack Jolie (guitar and vocals), Carl Johnson (bass) and Marilyn Toback-Reveley (guitar and vocals). Most of the selections are contemporary county and bluegrass pieces like "Steel Rails," "West Texas Wind," Jonathan Edwards' "Little Hands," "Don't Close Your Eyes," "Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart," and "Grapes On The Vine." The accompanying liner notes present an interesting overview of Grass Routes' first twenty years of playing bluegrass music. Anyone who is familiar with this dynamic quintet will surely want to incorporate "Twentieth Anniversary" into their music library.
