Album Notes

Hailing from Boston, Massachusetts, Gravehaven's blend of prog-rock and post-punk has carried them through years of peforming, touring, and self-releasing two records since late 2005. Their 2006 debut EP, Perceptions for the Colorblind, caught the attention of local and national press and new media outlets, including praise from Decoy Music, calling Gravehaven "one of the best unsigned bands that you need to hear."

Since, Gravehaven has focused on developing their live show, performing at numerous venues across the northeast states. Incorporating new and diverse instrumentation into their set became a priority, translating smoothly to their 2008 studio release, Calico, produced by Kris Smith (Olympia, Dropkick Murphys) and mixed by Matthew Ellard (Converge, Morphine). The dueling banjo and mandolin intro to the album makes clear the departure from the band’s earlier works, as Calico features classic acoustic instruments and a variety of keys, including Mellotron and Wurlitzer.
